Hello! I have ACER Aspire A715-72G, Windows 10

Yesterday the mouse pointer disappeared. f7 did not fix it.

In device manager, under mice and pointing devices, the touchpad no longer appears. Only a wireless mouse I'm using as a stopgap.

I downloaded the driver for the touchpad, touchpad_ELANTECH_13.6.10.2_W10x64, but it does not appear to contain an application file to install it.
How do I install the driver?

Thank you!

    Hi,
You could try reinstalling Quick Access application, go to Acer support site, download Quick Access application, then go to Control panel, Programs and uninstall current installation, install the downloaded Application.

I downloaded Quick Access, when I try to install it, it gets stuck at "Stopping Services."

Right click Setup.exe and click Properties, under General tab check the box for "Unblock" and see whether it helps.

Mine does not have that box.

Though now, after a long wait I get this message.

    Hi MFilipowicz,

Hold the fn key and press f7  or  just press the f7 key without holding the fn...     It is used to enable and disable the touchpad.     You will see the touchpad symbol with fingers on the key.     It might be either on f6 or f7 key on the keyboard.      You may also see a touchpad pad button either next to touchpad or next to power button.    Just click on the button to enable or disable it.

If none of the steps are working try to do a system restore ..

Try to do a system restore.    Try windows x -  power shell admin or command prompt admin - type rstrui  and press enter.    Chose the last date , touchpad was working fine.   Click on next , finish and yes and restore it to an earlier date..

The f7 touchpad button does not work.
And unfortunately, restore was not turned on. So there are no restore points.
I still don't understand how to install the Touchpad_ELANTECH_13.6.10.2_W10x64 driver.

Go to BIOS screen and move to Main tab, check whether you have Advanced option selected for Touchpad, if it shows as Basic, click on it and switch to Advanced.

It was on advanced. I switched to basic, restarted, Then back to advanced. Still not working.
I did just notice a notice on the I2C HID Device.
    Thanks for all the help!

No problem, go to Acer Support site and download Serial IO driver(30.100.1727.1), extract the .zip folder, right click SetupSerialIO.exe and select Run as Admin.

I did that. Still no mouse pointer, or Touchpad driver, and the error notification is still on the I2C HID Device.
Can someone please tell me how to install the Touchpad driver? Other than Quick Access? I can't get that to run on my machine either.

You have Serial I2C Host controller-A369 driver installed, try switching to Basic and Advanced options again and see whether it resolves the problem, if it doesn't you have to wait for someone else to chime in.

    Hi MFilipowicz,

Reset this PC and keep my files
    1. Shutdown the unit. Press and hold alt+F10 key. Then turn ON the unit.
    2. You will get a blue screen. Choose the option troubleshoot.

    3. Select Keep my files to refresh your PC and reinstall your operating system without removing your personal files. Click Next to continue. Important If you have apps installed on your PC, they will be removed. Recovery - 25
    4. Resetting the PC will reinstall Windows, change settings back to their factory defaults and remove all preinstalled apps and programs without removing your personal files. Click Reset to continue.
    5. You will be shown the reset progress on the screen. The screen will turn off during the reset process.
    6. The screen will turn back on when it is installing Windows. Your PC will restart several times during the reset process.
    7. Follow the process until it completes.
    8. When your PC has completed the reset process, Windows will have been reset back to its factory default settings without removing your personal files.

Is that the only way? I'd rather not go through all the trouble of reinstalling all the apps?
Can anyone answer why the Touchpad driver does NOT have a way to install?

Download and install iobit's DriverBooster freeware to see if it can detect the hardware and find suitable drivers on line.

That did not work for the mouse pointer, but I did have some out of date drivers!
  • Try resetting the battery:

I'd rather not open up the laptop if possible.
Can someone please explain how I can install the
    touchpad_ELANTECH_13.6.10.2_W10x64_A driver?
There is no touchpad driver in the Device Manager currently.
