    It's part of the mainboard USB interface. You might try uninstalling those drivers, exiting Device Manager without re-installing anything. Then shutdown Windows normally. Turn it back on an let it auto re-detect the bus and re-install the drivers.

    Thanks. What specific drivers are we talking about?

    All of them that you find under USB controllers folder. Including any card readers, composite devices, etc. that are  in there.

    If System Protection was not turned on in ControlPanel's restore point app(please double-check this if you haven't already), arguably the best way to rule in or rule out a hardware issue is a full erase everything ALT+F10 cold factory reset after backing up your personal files. Next best is a partial Alt+F10  factory refresh while trying to save personal files and installed programs. The Alt+F10 reset and refresh are rather drastic ways to troubleshoot hardware issues like this if System Protection was in fact turned off.
