Acer Chromebook Plus 514 wants 6-digit PIN

I bought an Acer Chromebook Plus 514 refurbished by Acer(!). It wants a 6-digit PIN I did not get with the purchase! How can I fix this? I can set up "another person" with my Google account, then it opens, but that PIN request pops up again and again. Please help, thanks! BTW, factory reset probably won't work because it needs that authorization PIN…

    Hi Nightjar,

If your Acer Chromebook Plus 514 is prompting for a 6-digit PIN you didn’t set, it’s likely tied to a previous user profile or a managed device configuration. Since you mentioned you can access the system via “another person” with your Google account, here’s how to generate a new PIN for your own profile:

Steps to set a new Chromebook PIN:

    1. Sign in to your Chromebook using your Google account.
    2. Click the time or profile icon in the bottom-right corner to open the system tray.
    3. Select Settings ⚙️.
    4. Scroll to People > Screen Lock and Sign-in.
    5. Enter your Google password when prompted, then click Confirm.
    6. Choose PIN or password, then click Set up PIN.
    7. Enter a new 6-digit PIN, click Continue, then re-enter it to confirm.

📌 Note: If the device is still requesting a PIN before login or during boot, it may be enrolled in enterprise management or locked with a firmware-level security feature. In that case, a factory reset won’t bypass it—you’ll need to contact Acer support with proof of purchase.
