GPU Fan Always at Max Speed – Acer Nitro V15 (BIOS v1.26)

Hi Acer Community,

I'm currently experiencing an issue with my Acer Nitro V15 (BIOS version 1.26). After recently reformatting my laptop, I noticed that the GPU fan is always running at maximum speed, even when the temperature is normal and no heavy tasks are running.

Additional details:

NitroSense can’t control the GPU fan.

  • GPU temps are normal (around 40–50°C idle).
  • EC reset was attempted (unplugged charger, held power button for 30 seconds), but the issue persists.
  • Windows is fully updated.
  • Using NVIDIA drivers via the NVIDIA app.
  • There is a new BIOS update that mentions "EC version update," but I'm hesitant to flash it without confirmation that it’s safe and relevant.

Questions:

  1. Is this a known issue with BIOS v1.26?
  2. Will updating the BIOS (and EC) fix the GPU fan control issue?
  3. Any way to regain manual control via NitroSense?

Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Fan Fix Approach for Nitro V15 – Disabling Performance Boost

Hi @MugiwaraLuffy — if your GPU fan is roaring non-stop while temps stay normal (40–50°C), the system may be applying unnecessary boost logic, especially post-reformat. NitroSense’s inability to control GPU fan might be tied to EC behavior or power settings.

Before flashing BIOS, try this tweak to reveal and disable Processor performance boost mode:

    1. 💡 Open Registry Editor (regedit)
    2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00\be337238-0d82-4146-a960-4f3749d470c7
    3. Find the Attributes value and set it from 1 to 2
    4. 🔁 Restart your PC
    5. In Advanced Power Settings, you’ll now see the “Processor performance boost mode” — set it to Disabled

This won’t give you full manual fan control, but it should tame boost-triggered fan behavior without risking a BIOS flash. Let us know how it goes — we’ve seen this calm down similar systems without touching firmware

To avoid BIOS flashing risks while potentially fixing fan control and EC quirks, try the built-in Windows recovery option:

    Steps:

    1. Go to Settings > System > Recovery
    2. Under “Fix problems using Windows Update,” click Reinstall now
    3. Windows will refresh its core system setup using the latest version from Update servers — without touching your BIOS or wiping apps/files

💡 This method works great post-reformat when EC and power profiles feel misaligned. Think of it as a “factory refresh” for Windows logic, not firmware.

🚫 After recovery, avoid branded driver optimizers or third-party repair tools — they can reintroduce EC quirks or override control logic. Stick with official Acer and NVIDIA packages for best stability.

Check this NitroSense Software solution HERE as the Nitro V15 does have a few issues and also the NitroSense App is a problematic app, so try those solution and see if this "What to Do if NitroSense Software Will Not Start" will solve this apps fan control and your overheating. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.
