Acer Nitro 16 - AN16-41 Graphics card conflict problem!

Hello, my computer's integrated AMD and Nvidia 4050 graphics cards are constantly conflicting. When I download the AMD drivers, my computer goes black. Even without installing the AMD drivers, I'm having trouble switching between AMD and Nvidia graphics cards. The problem I'm having is that when I click on a game to play, the graphics card automatically switches from AMD to Nvidia. This causes the screen to freeze, the fans to run at full speed, and the screen then goes black. The problem isn't hardware-related because it doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. And I'm so sick and tired of this problem. Acer needs to find a solution. I've tried W11 Home and W11 Pro, formatting them all and again. I've updated and replaced the cards numerous times, but the problem persists. I've researched and found that many people are experiencing this issue. What should I do? I think I'll file a complaint against Acer with my country's consumer rights department. They're complaining about their indifference.

Do this and see if it works, you need to uninstall all the AMD Navi 3 graphics with up to 6 WGPs cpu graphics drivers from the AN16-41 laptop, as then the bios > Optimus will not witch to the AMD cpu graphics, as there is no drivers.

What is happening in your Nitro AN16-41 laptops is that and if you have both the AMD cpu graphics drivers and the NVidia drivers installed, the laptop switches automatically to the lower power AMD cpu graphics to save battery and when you play games it switches to the NVidia graphics automatically and that is where the freezing and crashing happens.

What I suggest is that you go to the bios and set the bios to the Advanced > Display mode > NVIDIA GPU only settings and only have the last RTX4050 NVIDIA game Ready driver version 577.00 installed on this laptop as then your AN16-41 will not freeze or crash and it will work perfectly with the NVIDIA RTX4050 GPU only, which is the best gpu for this laptop to work with and NOT use the AMD cpu graphics. Try that and let us know. make also sure that you have the Win-11 version 24H2 updated to the last OS build: 26100.4770 that I found that has improved the Win-11 performance too and of course the AN16-41 last bios version 1.25 installed too.

Set your Nitro AN16-41 in its BIOS > Advanced > Display mode > NVIDIA GPU only settings

Note: I’ve been using a Predator Helios Neo model PHN16-71-50JG laptop for 7 months now that has the i5-13500Hx cpu/ RTX4050 gpu / upgraded ram to 64GB at 2x 32GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 type and this laptop has always been set in bios to only work with the Nvidia GPU only that is its RTX4050 gpu and I’ve had no problems with this laptop switching to the Intel cpu graphics, as it does NOT do that and it never ever freezes or crashes in any games that I have installed on this laptop.

I play the following games, and these racing games I use a steering wheel controller, and they are: Assetto Corsa Competizione and Assetto Corsa EVO, Le Mans Ultimate, Forza Horizon 5, Battlefield IV, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 and Sniper 5 with the laptops keyboard and USB corded mouse and I have no problems playing these games. Also I suggest that you keep your Nitro AN16-41 at default settings and DO not install any overclocking software or undervolting overvolting like MSI etc KEEP YOUR LAPTOP AT DEFAULT SETTINGS as that works best👍!

I understand that you're suggesting that you should only use the 4050 to solve the problem. However, this will shorten the lifespan of my graphics card and consume more power.

I have an AMD graphics card, and I bought it knowingly. It's a feature that comes with the computer. In this case, there shouldn't be any conflicts. So, why should I limit myself when the problem needs to be solved? The problem here isn't with me; it's with Acer and the computer's software. In other words, the problem is caused by Acer. They aren't sending us special versions; the ones they sent are expired and don't work. This computer is new; it's been a year since I bought it. My point is, why shouldn't I use my computer's features when the problem needs to be solved? If Optimus and Nvidia were working perfectly stable before, but now this is the case after an update, why should I limit myself when they should be the ones to fix the problem? Why should I constantly use my computer at full power and power consumption, shortening its lifespan and wasting energy? This problem needs to be solved. When we bought it, they offered us the option of an AMD+Nvidia graphics card. They didn't say it was causing a problem. And it wasn't. They caused this with their own updates.

Now, I'm asking you one last time.

While those who caused the problem should have fixed it, is this advice you gave me reasonable? "Don't use that feature; turn it off. Run your computer at full load. It wastes energy and shortens your computer's lifespan."

If you use your laptop mainly plugged into the adapter and the mains power, then I suggest that you set the bios of your Nitro AN16-41 to the NVidia RTX4050 gpu only setting, as it doesn’t make any difference for saving power, as you will get much better performance with the NVidia RTX4050 gpu and this gpu will not wear our, where did you get that advice from? But whenever you use your laptop in a mobile state, switch to the AMD cpu graphics, as its a simple setting and pattern to use your laptop for best performance.

You will never ever damage your gpu or laptop by only using the NVidia gpu, it will be the reverse, as your laptop will perform allot better and you will get better and quicker graphics performance. I've been using the NVidia RTX4050 gpu graphics only in my laptop with the setting in bios of my Predator Neo PHN16-71 laptop at “NVidia GPU only” setting and it performs perfectly and never ever has any BSOD or crashes.

But and as a matter of a fact, with my old 4 years old Nitro AN515-56 that has the i7-11370H cpu with an RTX3050 and the graphics get switched automatically from the cpu graphics to the higher NVidia RTX3050 gpu, after 4 years of using this laptop with and at those settings, the RTX3050 gpu gives me BSODs whenever a new NVidia Game Ready driver is installed and the driver crashes the laptop with a BSOD about half way when the new driver is installed, but when the laptop reboots after the BSOD, the new driver is installed and the new version is shown, so using these laptops with both gpu’s to switch automatically can cause problems.

Anyway, I’m a user just like you and I don’t work for Acer, as I’ve given you what I suggest that you should have your laptop set at and what my experiences have been, and what can happen, its up to you what settings you use. If you own an Acer Nitro 16 (AN16-41) and when switching to the AMD 660M (iGPU) in BIOS there is no display output, but everything works fine when selecting the NVIDIA GPU, the issue is caused by AMD’s Adrenalin software package.

Here’s what I tested and confirmed:

1. Definitive & Stable Fix

Completely uninstall AMD Adrenalin drivers and software (using DDU is recommended).

Download and install the official Acer OEM driver:
AMD VGA Chip_M UMA v22.20.44.21

Do not install the Adrenalin control panel, as it causes the display issue again.

This resolves the issue completely.

2. Alternative Fix (For Adrenalin Users)

With older Adrenalin versions, this issue does not appear.

If you really want to use Adrenalin, try installing an older version.

However, for the most stable experience, it’s recommended to stick with Acer’s official driver.

Note: BIOS Update Needed

This issue is actually related to the BIOS / MUX Switch GPU switching mechanism.

Acer will likely need to release a BIOS update to permanently fix this incompatibility.

Users should keep an eye on Acer’s support page and update to the latest BIOS once it becomes available.
