I just got my predator laptop but haven't yet unboxed it, I needed to know the maximum storage and RAM for the phn 16-71 76h5 for upgrading

I heard or saw from a source online that the maximum RAM for the laptop is 64gb, but my technician tells me 32gb. I don't know which is a true statement at this point, if both are true I'm planning on going for the 64gb but something keeps telling me I maybe wrong

Any advice?

Hi, the memory can be upgraded to a maximum total of 32GB (2x16GB DDR5-4800MHz) RAM in 2x ram slots.

    i7 PHN 17-71 RAM.jpg

There are two PCIe 4 x4 slots for NVMe Gen4 SSDs, no capacity limit for the storage. Samsung NVMe Gen4 990Pro is one of the fastest SSDs on the market and will work with this laptop. The newer Samsung 990 Evo Plus is PCIe5 compatible and will also work in both PCIe slots.

Your PHN16-71 -76H5 with the i7-13650HX cpu / RTX4060 / 16GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 type ram will run very comfortably on 64GB @ 2x 32GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 type Crucial that you have the link above to. The max capacity storage in a windows OS with the GUID (GPT) format is max 8 petabytes (1 petabyte = 1000TB) so you will never ever reach that limit😁

With the ram, I've updated my PHN16-71-50JG model i5-13500HX /RTX4050 / 16GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL 40 to the Crucial 64GB Kit DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 type ram and also upgraded the boot M.2 SSD to the excellent 1TB Samsung 990 Pro NVMe + Heatsink that fits perfectly. These laptops have been upgraded to 96GB and above as there are DDR5-4800MT/s type ram modules of capacities of 48GB and 64GB as the cpu max memory is 128GB, but please do your research before contemplating an upgrade above 64GB, as that is all that I can guarantee 100% that works.

Note: the Crucial link above is what type of ram and kits that will work 100% with all PHN16-71 -xxxx model laptops that have the i5-13500HX or the i7-13700HX cpu's, but the PHN16-71-xxcx with the i9-13900HX Processor, those laptops work with DDR5-5600MT/s CL46 type ram. Good luck and hope this clarifies the upgrade to 64GB for you.

Thank you for your answer, it's really enlightening.

I saw somewhere, I've forgotten where exactly, that the storage doesn't have a limit

where do you get the "oem FOIL COMPOSITE W/ PAD"?
also other comments said there are two "PCIe 4 x4 slots for NVMe Gen4 SSDs", and in the image you have shown (and also i have recently opened the back of my laptop) theres only 1 PCIe Slot for storage, where is suppsupposed to be the other one?

btw thanks for your other replies in other topics!

Yes, in a windows OS computer, a windows OS with the UEFI bios and the drive formatted with the GUID (GPT) type format has a max capacity limit of 8 petabytes (1 petabyte = 1000TB) which you will never ever reach with todays driver that will fit into your PHN16-71-76H5 model laptop, so you can use 2x of the following capacity drives (mixed capacities) sizes in SSD1 and SSD2 M.2 slots of sizes: 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, 8TB, 16TB or above which are the M.2 SSD drives that are available on the market today. Good luck.

Search the web with the acer part numbers as these foils are available from specialist Acer part retailers in your area that will ship to you. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Below are the M.2 drive and DDR5 ram foils that Acer fits for the PHN16-71 laptop listed in its service guide, but it will fit all M.2 drives and DDR5 ram modules

thank you, i just bought the 64gb ram, but they are not crucial brand, but adata. i hope that doesnt make any trouble. also i did not find any foil composite yet, is it okay if i install the ram modules without the foil composite?

The ADATA RAM at 2x 32GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 which is the max RAM speed that your i7-13700HX cpu will work with should work 100%, but when you upgrade to this ADATA new ram, and you reboot the laptop first up, allow the system to register the new 64GB DDR5 ram, this can take up to 2min and if it doesn't then press the "Turbo button" on the top left of the top cover, to speed the system registration up, as that is what I did and it worked and it registered and booted straight away.

Also and with the above RAM Acer Foil Composite that Acer uses, what I did with my Predator NeoPHN16-71 model, is I took the old RAM foil off that Acer fitted oem to the RAM and put it onto the new upgraded Crucial 32GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 new module that I upgraded to, as its very easy, just carefully take that foil wrap off and put it onto the new RAM, you don't need to buy the new wrap above as the old wrap fits perfectly, or and if you want to go all out, then buy a RAM heatsink from eBay or Amazon. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.

Below is my CPUz > Memory > 64GB 2x 32GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 type Micron ram and what its memory CPUz is showing. Which is interpreted as follows, its showing 4x 32-bit divided by 2x memory modules that 1x module is running in dual channels mode, so your CPUz should show the same for your laptop memory with 64GB total memory.

Good on you, as these laptops perform excellently, its a pity that the PHN-16-71 13th Gen and the PHN16-72 14th Gen models are getting a bad name because of the Intel 13th and 14th Gen initial cpu microcode problems, as these laptops perform at their best with allot of memory and 64GB in my opinion is the min that they should be run with.

My next goal is to increase the ram in my PHN16-71-50JG to 2x 48GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 at 96GB, which I know that this laptop will run with or even 128GB at 2x 64GB which I have to do research on if there are 64GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 type memory modules available, as I know that there are 48GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL40. But I’ll be doing that when the ram prices come down a bit from what they are now.

Btw, this community member that has an Acer 15.6" Predator Helios 3D 15 Gaming Laptop SpatialLabs Edition with an i9-13900HX cpu and in this article he is outlining that after he upgraded to 96GB at 2x 48GB DDR5-5600MT/s CL46 type ram how this ram is only running at 4800MT/s, so have a read as its interesting.

im thinking of doing the same when prices fall, but for now i dont think there are 64gb sticks available at CL40…. i just checked on amazon an there are crucial sticks at CL46

Ok, that is good to know, but you should search with all the different ram manufacturers like ADATA, Corsair Micron as they should have 64GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 type modules, as I think I saw them on a site before. As now that the cpu's are demanding bigger ram into 2x ram slots, these manufactures will also release 128GB memory modules, should be very interesting to see how these gaming and high end laptops develop.

There is a Mushkin Redline 96GB (2x48GB) DDR5 Laptop 4800 CL40 262-pin 1.1V Dual Channel MHz SODIMM RAM Memory Kit MRA5S480FGGD48GX2 but the price is at USD $418.00 which is insanely expensive for now, the 128GB kit at 2x 64GB DDR5-5600MT/s CL46 is cheaper at USD $345,00, which is very strange😱, it will have to wait for now, as I'm happy with what I've got and my PHN16-71-50JG performs great.

wo thats too much, i guess is a bit expensive in USD than in MXN, try the followig link:

    https://www.amazon.com.mx/s?k=Mushkin+Redline+96GB+%282x48GB%29+DDR5+Laptop+4800+CL40+262-pin+1.1V+Dual+Channel+MHz+SODIMM+RAM+Memory+Kit+MRA5S480FGGD48GX2&__mk_es_MX=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&ref=nb_sb_noss

there you can see the same ram sticks of that brand Mushkin as well of Crucial, and I did tried to look up for other brands but it seems that those 64gb sticks do not exist yet… at least Crucial does have the 128 (64x2) sticks but at CL40, there are of course plenty brands that pffer that option for desktops but not for laptops…

just to let you know that i saw the new acer predator 18 AI, and it has 196gb of ram, 4 slots of 48gb so maybe the 64gb sticks will not exist in the near future

Where did you see that? As it would be very interesting to see a caption of the internals and this laptop, as an 18" is about the only size that 4x ram slots can fit. As I searched on the web for this model but there is nothing there. If you have a caption then posted on the community.
