Hi,

My touchpad is not working of my aspire a315-56. The touchpad does not show up in device manager at all. I downloaded both touchpad drivers that I could find on the acer website. Furthermore, I downloaded the IO drivers intel as well. However, when I try to add these in device manager by using "add driver", I get the message driver successfully installed on 0 devices, and my touchpad still wont work. I am out of options, and don't know what else I could try. anyone who could help me out?

Hi, there are no Touchpad drivers available as the device is integrated and 100% controlled by Microsoft Precision firmware since Windows10. Uninstall the "12C HID" device in Device Manager-Human Interface Devices and just reboot, also uninstall any Synaptics,, ElanTech and all other touchpad drivers you may have installed and uninstall Unknown or Other Devices in Device Manager. If you are still unable to use your Touchpad replace the Touchpad, these are cheap and easy to install and often fail after 4-5 years daily use. You can contact an Acer endorsed repair shop to replace your touchpad.

There are touchpad drivers, with just the Microsoft driver you don't get the full feature set. The touchpad sits behind both an I2C and USB internal port, so an issue with either could cause the touchpad to no longer be recognized. Do you have anything in Device Manager showing an error or warning? Without something showing there we won't be able to guess if you have the Elantech or Synaptics module, so can't suggest which driver was appropriate. If the suggestion to uninstall the I2C doesn't help, try doing the same with the USB root hubs.

If your cursor will not move or your touchpad is not working at all:

    1. Remove connected devices - Remove all devices that are connected to the system except for the power cord. This includes external keyboard, mouse, flash drives, hard drives and other peripherals.
    2. Enable/disable your touchpad - Many systems allow you to turn the touchpad On or Off by pressing a key combination. On most models it is FN + F7 or FN + F2, but could also be a different function key. The touchpad function key will be labeled with one of the images below.CenterMediumAccessibilityDelete
    3. Restart your computer - Restarting your system may help your touchpad start responding again.
    4. Reset BIOS or UEFI to default settings - Some systems have touchpad settings in the BIOS/UEFI.
    5. Reinstall touchpad drivers - Missing or incorrect drivers may cause your touchpad to not work properly. You can try downloading and installing the latest driver from our Acer Drivers and Manuals page. You may need to attach an external mouse to complete this process.
    6. Restore Windows- Newer versions of Windows allow you to restore your operating system without losing your personal data. Make sure you select the option to Keep my files.

If you can move your cursor but are having problems with cursor speed, erratic behavior or tapping and clicking:

    1. Adjust touchpad sensitivity - If your cursor is moving too fast or too slow, you can try changing your touchpad sensitivity.
    2. Disable tap to click - Accidentally making contact with the touchpad when typing can cause the cursor to jump around or leave the window.
