Acer Swift SF314-511 Microphone not working, no sound despite 100% input level

Acer Swift SF314-511. Microphone does not record sound, and the cause may be a software issue where a very loud internal(?) noise is blocking out the remaining sounds. When recording a video, there is no sound to be heard, not even a faint noise.

However, the sound is permanently at 100% when the level of the microphone is at this input level, as can be seen in the screenshot.

I have tried the following:

  • Reinstalled the drivers
  • Restarted the laptop
  • Forcibly restarted Windows Audio using task manager
  • Turned Stereo recording on and off
  • Tried using and closing different apps
  • Tried microsoft problem solver

The most off putting information is that the status of the Microphone matrix (when using device manager) simply states that the product is working, which is very obviously not the case. There has also not been any hardware damage that I know of, and the product is approximately 1.5 years old.
