Acer Swift SF314-511 Microphone not working, no sound despite 100% input level

Acer Swift SF314-511. Microphone does not record sound, and the cause may be a software issue where a very loud internal(?) noise is blocking out the remaining sounds. When recording a video, there is no sound to be heard, not even a faint noise.

However, the sound is permanently at 100% when the level of the microphone is at this input level, as can be seen in the screenshot.

I have tried the following:

  • Reinstalled the drivers
  • Restarted the laptop
  • Forcibly restarted Windows Audio using task manager
  • Turned Stereo recording on and off
  • Tried using and closing different apps
  • Tried microsoft problem solver

The most off putting information is that the status of the Microphone matrix (when using device manager) simply states that the product is working, which is very obviously not the case. There has also not been any hardware damage that I know of, and the product is approximately 1.5 years old.

Don't worry about uninstalling the sound driver as long as you are not checking the small check box - Delete driver software while you are trying to uninstall it. After uninstalling the sound driver when you restart the computer it will automatically install the sound driver as long as you have not checked the box "Delete driver software".

    Try windows + x

Go to device manager - Go to sound video and game controllers. Expand it

Uninstall the sound driver from device manager. Please uninstall all the items below the sound video and game controllers. Restart the computer. It should work fine.. It will automatically install the sound driver when you restart the computer.

If it is still not working

Uninstall the sound driver from device manager

Dont restart the computer. Go to support.acer.com

choose your country, type snid or chose your model

go to drivers, Install the sound driver

    It should work fine.

If it is still not working follow the steps given below:-

click on start - settings - system – sound – You will see chose your output and input device

On the " choose your output device " - chose headset or speakers as you desire..

On the "choose your input device" - click on drop down menu - chose microphone as the input

On type here to search on the lower left corner

    type microphone privacy

go to microphone privacy settings on the top

check whether Allow access to the microphone on this device is on

If it is off - click on change and turn it on

Allow apps to access your microphone is on

Scroll down - choose which microsoft store apps can access your microphone

check the apps especially zoom, skype , camera to on

Allow Desktop apps to access your microphone to on

    It should work fine

When in sound settings, what does the microphone test show for input levels?

First, try disabling all audio enhancements by right-clicking on the sound icon in the system tray, selecting "Sounds," navigating to the "Recording" tab, selecting your microphone, and clicking "Properties." In the "Enhancements" tab, check the box to "Disable all sound effects" or "Disable all enhancements." Next, ensure your microphone has the necessary permissions by going to Settings > Privacy > Microphone and toggling on the option to allow apps to access your microphone.

Additionally, updating your BIOS and chipset drivers from Acer’s support site might help resolve the issue.

It shows that a VERY loud sound is recorded, but when I play it back there is no sound at all, or only at the very start. Of course, no actual sounds are recorded.

Furthermore, I have tried all the variations of solutions offered in this thread, and the microphone still does not work.
