I have been using my Nitro 5 happily for the past year, and have decided to change the thermal paste. Upon changing it, the display worked fine for around 30 minutes, after which it completely shut down while sort of flickering for about 2 seconds. I can still see it work by shining a light into it. I've tried looking at the board, and looking at the LCD connector but it doesn't seem to be disconnected in any way.

Is there any way to save the screen without buying another one?

Note: before this went down, I booted into windows and Nitro sense was behaving weirdly (and still is) being stuck on 1C for the CPU and nothing for the GPU.

I rebooted to Linux afterwards and that's where withing ~3 minutes the backlight died.

    Check Connections

    1. Inspect the LCD Connector: Ensure that the LCD connector is securely attached. Sometimes, it can be slightly dislodged during reassembly.
    2. Examine the Ribbon Cable: Look for any signs of damage or kinks in the ribbon cable connecting the display to the motherboard.

    3. Perform internal battery reset using below link-

    Check for Short Circuits

Inspect the motherboard for any signs of short circuits or damage, especially around the CPU and GPU areas where you applied the thermal paste. Ensure that no excess paste has leaked onto the board.

    Monitor Temperatures

If you can boot into Windows, check the temperatures using software like HWMonitor or Core Temp to ensure that the CPU and GPU are not overheating, which could cause shutdowns and display issues.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, further diagnostics may be needed, or professional repair might be necessary. In that case sending it to service center is only choice.

  • The problem that you have is that your laptops screens backlight has gone down because the screens mainboard has a shorted LED light regulator chip and its affected the LED backlights of the screen, this can be bypassed and the LEDs can be revived so that the screen will work by an experienced technician that knows how to do a workaround and open the screen mainboard, so enquire around in your area if there is a tech that can do this sort of work, if not then you need to buy a new screen and replace the screen, but when you replace the screen make sure that you first disconnect the adapter and the battery before disconnecting the screen eDP lug as if you don't you will cause permanent damage to your mainboard and the laptop will not boot. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.

These are the AN515-45 screens that Acer fitted to your laptop, take the old screen out as its got a part number like below so you can reference it and buy a new one.
