Hi everyone,

So, nostalgia kicked in a few days ago when I found my old Aspire 5742G 2011 laptop (my first ever laptop) in an old electronics box, this made me want to bring it back to life and make it somewhat relevant and useable for this day and age.

So my plans are to upgrade it to the absolute maximum, the upgrades I seek are:

  1. CPU : from i3-380M to i7-940XM , I know the motherboard has the Mobile Intel® HM55 Express Chipset which supports first gen Intel Mobile CPUs, including the i7-940XM.
  2. Cooling/Heatsink: From the standard single copper pipe to AT0C9002SS0 dual copper pipes.
  3. Thermal Compound: Honeywell PCM45F-SP to Honeywell PTM7950 or Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut (Liquid Metal)
  4. Memory/ RAM : from 8GB DDR3 1.5v 1066MHz ( 2x4GB soDIMMs) to possibly 16GB DDR3 1.5v 1066MHz/1333MHz, I know Acer states that the maximum supported is 8GB but apparently there have been rumors of users that somehow managed to perform this upgrade using Kingston 1.5v soDIMM modules, so I'll give it a shot.
  5. WIFI Chip: from current Atheros HB93/ HB97 Wireless Module 802.11b/g/n to WiFi 6E Half Mini PCI-E WiFi Network Card 802.11AX AC MPE-AXE3000H.
  6. Screen/Display : From LG / LP156WH2-TLEA HD (1366x768) to AUO B156HW02 V.1 FullHD (1920x1080)
  7. Storage: From 500GB Toshiba HDD to 870 QVO 8TB MZ-77Q8T0BW SATA III.

So my question is, has anyone attempted a similar upgrade project ? I'm more interested in the CPU and Display/Screen compatibility issues (if any).

Thanks in advance!

Serge
