I recently bought an Aspire 5 15 to replace my previous Aspire 5 after, stupidly, spilling coffee all over it.🙄

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it now had a backlit keyboard, great. However I was extremely annoyed to discover that it has a timeout enabled and constantly turns itself off.🤬

After trying to find a solution "online", it appeared that it is or ,hopefully, was a built in power saving feature but I couldn't find a post later than 2021, although there are plenty, unsolved, from earlier? ( The timeout on the screen, which surely uses more power, is adjustable, doesn't seem to make sense?)

So: Has anything changed and is there now a solution to this, again extremely annoying "feature"?

Help needed!!

Hello. That problem sounds very annoying. I am sorry the keyboard is doing that.

try checking your BIOS to see if there is a keyboard lighting timeout there:

Try this to get into your BIOS:

    1. restart your system and immediately press F2 to enter the BIOS.
    2. Use the right arrow key to highlight the Main tab.
    3. Use the down arrow to highlight Keyboard Lighting Timeout: and change the setting to Disabled.
    4. Press F10 to save the change and boot into Windows.

if that does not work, you can try following the steps in this link to update your BIOS and possibly add the setting.

here are the steps from the link:

    1. Visit the Drivers and Manuals section of the Acer support website.
    2. Enter your Serial Number/SNID or search for your product by Model.
    3. Select BIOS/Firmware.
    4. Download and install the latest BIOS for your model.
    5. After the BIOS is installed, restart your system and immediately press F2 to enter the BIOS.
    6. Use the right arrow key to highlight the Main tab.
    7. Use the down arrow to highlight Keyboard Lighting Timeout: and change the setting to Disabled.
    8. Press F10 to save the change and boot into Windows.

let me know what happens 😀
