How to get 'Swift GO 16' trackpad has failed, how to get the trackpad working again?

  • My new 'Swift Go 16' trackpad has failed - suddenly on start-up there is no screen cursor or activity. I can still use a Bluetooth mouse, however.
  • There are no driver error messages/indications, and various utilities tell me all my HID drivers are functioning and latest rev, and all my apps & Windows OS have latest updates.
  • There are no 'screen instructions' available with the driver download packages, as is implied by Acer Help/Support info.
  • The various support instructions I can find so far re trackpad &/or IO device driver re-installation, whether via Acer forums or AI searches, are all either incomplete, ambiguous, overly generic, self-assumptive or out of date, such that they cannot be readily followed by an Acer novice (though I am PC tech savvy in general).

Please, somebody help - with relevant and full instructions on how to resurrect my trackpad?

Below are some troubleshooting suggestions if you are having trouble with your touchpad. The steps in this article troubleshoot the built-in touchpad on a notebook computer, and not an external mouse that may be
attached. Follow the suggestions below for the scenario that best describes the issues you are having.

If your cursor will not move or your touchpad is not working at all:

    1. Remove connected devices -
Remove all devices that are connected to the system except for the
power cord. This includes external keyboard, mouse, flash drives, hard
      drives and other peripherals.
    2. Enable/disable your touchpad - Many systems allow you to turn the touchpad On or Off by pressing a key combination. On most models it is FN + F7 or FN + F2, but could also be a different function key. The touchpad function key will be labeled with one of the images below.
    3. Restart your computer - Restarting your system may help your touchpad start responding again.
    4. Reset BIOS or UEFI to default settings - Some systems have touchpad settings in the BIOS/UEFI.
    5. Reinstall touchpad drivers -
Missing or incorrect drivers may cause your touchpad to not work properly. You can try downloading and installing the latest driver from our Acer Drivers and Manuals page. You may need to attach an external mouse to complete this process.
    6. Restore Windows-
Newer versions of Windows allow you to restore your operating system without losing your personal data. Make sure you select the option to Keep my files.

If you can move your cursor but are having problems with cursor speed, erratic behavior or tapping and clicking:

    1. Adjust touchpad sensitivity - If your cursor is moving too fast or too slow, you can try changing your touchpad sensitivity.
    2. Disable tap to click - Accidentally making contact with the touchpad when typing can cause the cursor to jump around or leave the window.

    Hi,

Could you please post the full model name, like SFG16-xx, in the meantime, go to BIOS screen and move to Main tab, check whether the Touchpad is in I2C mode, if it's in PS2 mode switch to I2C.

It depends on which Swift Go 16 model you have, and which keyboard language is installed, but usually the touchpad toggle is either F10 or Fn-F10 on those.

Please read my question again, re ambiguous & self-assumptive instructions, i.e., please explain how I get to the BIOS screen you show, etc. Thanks.

Press F2 button as soon(press F2 button before the Acer logo appears) as you press Power button to access BIOS screen.

If you don't see the Touchpad option, while in the Main tab, press Ctrl+S buttons together.

Again, we are shooting in the dark if you don't tell us which model laptop you have. Although the Swift Go 16 is a fairly new design, the model has been around for long enough to have multiple versions.
