Hello,

I've got a problem with my Acer Predator Helios 300 that I'm not able to solve.

For some time now, my computer, after coming out of sleep mode, fails to start up. There's only a black screen, and I can't do anything. Therefore, I need to use force shutdown to turn it off and then restart it.

A week ago, when I had to perform the same procedure, upon turning on the PC, it displayed the "no bootable device" screen. I attempted to enter the BIOS, and it showed no connected storage. At this point, I searched online and tried various methods to resolve the issue:

  • I disconnected and reconnected the SSD from the PC (leaving the PC on in the BIOS without the SSD for an hour).
  • I started the PC with a bootable flash drive using Windows 11 media creation tool and attempted to fix the boot problems.
  • In the media creation tool, I went to the command prompt and entered the following code lines:
    bootrec /rebuildbcd
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot

The fixboot command doesn't work; it says "access denied."
  • I also tried using the commands:
    diskpart
    list disk

It shows a volume of about 400GB, which should be the SSD. However, when I ask for the list of volumes with the command: select disk disk, there is only one volume 0, which is that of the flash drive.

I don't know what else to do. I reached out to Acer for a repair (my PC is still under warranty), but they redirected me to the technical team. I wanted to seek advice on the forum because the only thing that comes to mind is that the SSD is damaged.

Thank you for whoever will answer me.

Although peers on this forum disagree, IMO aborting a running Windows OS will corrupt system files. In your case the boot loader is corrupted. I strongly recommend not to use the Power Button to force a shut down but use Ctrl+Alt+Del or Task Manager to end the hanging app. Just waiting is always the best, W11 will terminate/complete the process eventually.

You need to restore the system to factory defaults, losing all your data, take the boot SSD out and mount it in an USB SSD enclosure or USB SSD cable and download your files to another PC. Either reformat the external SSD if privacy concerns or just reinstall the SSD in your laptop and bring it to Acer Services in your country to restore the system for a small service fee.

Waking from "Sleep mode", or S3 as this is now called in Windows11 Modern Stand-by protocol, issues can be avoided by disabling Hibernate and Fast Startup and using the Power Plan factory default settings.

Thank you very much for your answer, I couldn't find anything online and I am not really familiar with these thing.

So in summary, I need to connect the SSD to another computer (through an adapter), retrieve the files and format the SSD. This should solve the thing right?

I think that in order to recover the files I may need software like EaseUS or something like that, correct?

So I bought an SSK adapter in order to read the SSD on another computer. I can't find it in disk managament, there is only an uninitiated disk that is the ssd adapter but it doesn't show the size and it doesn't make me do anything. With EaseUs recovery is not shown, which is very suspicious.

I don't really know what else to do other than showing this to a technician. I'm starting warring that my SSD is dead.
