So my chrome book recently has not been connecting to WiFi anywhere. On the bottom right corner where there’s some settings including WiFi, the WiFi is always turned off. When I click on it to turn it on, the switch turns on, but it doesn’t actually turn on, because then when I click out of it, it says it’s off. Usually when it’s not connected to WiFi, the symbol will have an x inside of it, but it’s just an outline of the symbol. When I go to WiFi settings, the option to enable WiFi isn’t even there. I’ve turned on and off my computer multiple times and it has done nothing. It’s not updated to the latest software because I can’t update because I can’t connect to the internet. And it doesn’t work anywhere. Not at home, not at school, not with a personal hot spot, no where. What other ways are there to fix it? I need a suggestion that doesn’t require internet because it won’t connect.

First tell us what is the exact model number of your Chromebook? As Wi-Fi problems could be many with hardware or software issues and updates to newer drivers that you need to diagnose and/or update.

If it is still not working..

We need to do a power wash on your chrome book.
    Restart the chromebook.
On the login screen please don’t type the password.
Hold the Ctrl key + shift key + alt key on keyboard and then press the letter r once
It will show “Reset this pc”
Click on power wash and continue..
Please understand it will clear the local and user settings..
    Please complete the final setup..
Connnect to wifi and type the wifi password
Login to chromebook with your regular password
    It should work fine ..

Kindly follow the details from the link given below.    It will show you how to perform a hard reset.

Once the hard reset is completed try to check whether it is working fine by connecting to wireless.     If it is not connecting to a wifi at your home please try to connect to a wifi in a different place or try to go to a hot spot and try to connect to a different wifi and check.

Ok. I just tried that too, it worked for a second but now it’s still not working. It’s not our router or anything because it doesn’t even give me the option to connect. I can’t get passed the screen and I can’t even set it up. The first time I did the power wash today, it went on an off again working so I was able to set it up but it took a while because of that. Now it just won’t let me connect at all. Is there something I can try that doesn’t need internet?

Go into your Wi-Fi settings, choose the network, select Disconnect and try connecting again. Update the Chromebook. If possible, update your Chromebook to make sure you're running the current version of Chrome OS. Turn off your router and restart the Chromebook.

Try esc + refresh (the key like half circle with an arrow) and power button.

I tried that after I wrote this and it worked for a second but it doesn’t work anymore. I haven’t been able to use my chrome book ever since I wrote this post.
