warranty Aspire 3

My Aspire 3 has always been slow and unresponsive. All windows updates etc are all up to date and fine. I have performed disk check, reset virtual memory etc etc - basically everything tech support has recommended to do. Laptop has also been reset to factory. Start up takes 5+ mins, and even then simple tasks like moving from one wen page to another has a time delay and you get the 'unresponsive' message. It is under extended warranty, and Acer have said to send to them. My concern is all the t's and c's - including not being under warranty if it's a software issue. Has anyone had a similar problem and tried to have it fixed under warranty? - and if so did Acer do this, or just try to fob it off as 'software' issue and then charge a fortune to send it back! Maybe Acer are different, but from previous experience with computer firms, they do tend to try and wriggle out of any warranty fixes unless it's something obviously wrong with the hardware/product itself - like a broken hinge for example. Any help or advice very welcome - thanks.

Post screenshots of your TaskManager startup tab and your DeviceManager with hidden devices checkmarked in the view dropdown.

I had an IT technician take a look and he went straight to the Task Manager and noted that the C disk is maxed out at 100% straight from start up, and it just stays there (at 100%) even if laptop is just idle.

Yes. Now, please post screenshots of your TaskManager startup tab and your DeviceManager with hidden devices checkmarked in the view dropdown.

The device manager screen shot is with hidden devices ticked in the view dropdown. Or have I misunderstood?

Did you install bu ll  head antivirus? It can be an enormous drain on the HDD, cpu and really slow things up. Most users no longer need no n Mi cro soft anti virus scanners as Mic roso ft defender and mallcious software removal tool are updated regularly. I recommend uninstalling b ull head, not just disabling it.

Only just added it. I've tried with and without different anti-virus options and it's always the same laptop performance - meaning awful. I have other laptops and a PC with BullGuard and it doesn't affect them at all. Surely the point is that the C disk should not be at 100% when it's just sat idle. I checked all my other laptops and PC's when sat at idle and they were all at 0%, save one which was at 1%.
  • What is the exact model? Example AN515-55-58VH. Continuing the suggestion of colleague JackE, it would be interesting to disable all these services in the background, through msconfig, see:

Then restart windows and check if the disk is at 100%! I also advise getting an ssd.

Yes, SSD would sort it out - but point is, it's supposed to work with the disk it has, and it's under warranty...so I think it's reasonable to expect Acer to fix it.
If I fit an SSD, I lose both the cost of extended warranty and then have the cost of the SSD.
I'll give the idea you mention a try - thanks.

    No effect unfortunately, still 100%.
  • Can you check hard disk health with crystaldiskinfo program?

Uninstalled Bullguard. No difference - still @ 100% on C disk.

@Iancv check in the process tab to check if any process is consuming the disk resources. Windows 10 tends to work really bad with HDD and causes 100% disk.
Please remember to include @AnhEZ28 when you want to reply back to my comment so that I can check your response.
Thank you and have a nice day!

Nearly every background process is at 0mb/s. A couple with minor effect (like 0.1 or 0.2mb/s).

I agree with @egydiocoelho . Please check HDD. It may be failing.

Eventually managed to do the disk check. It took 19 mins for the laptop to boot up and then to be able to open the web browser!
Somehow the disk check says it is in good health.

  • Is there a warranty stamp on the lower case of the laptop?

Press Win+R. Enter 'mrt'. Follow directions. This full scan may take several hours.

All clear, no infected files/malware etc.
Seems rather likely that it is the C disk that is faulty. I have been trying to check with Acer that, if this is indeed the case, they will replace this under the extended warranty - but they have now stopped replying to my emails/questions. Waiting 4+ days on response now.
