You are back after several months.

I consider the WD SN550 just a mediocre drive, because the speed is just 2,400 MB/s read, but it will fit.

For full speed (3,400 MB/s), there are so many choices. Such as:

Silicon Power A80, WD SN750 Black, SS 970 EVO, SS 970 EVO Pro, SS 980, SK Hynix Gold P31... etc. I have most of these drives.

Just make sure the form factor is 2280 ( 22mm x 80 mm) and it will fit.

Any of the NVMe x4 drives should work fine, IIRC the WD Blue line are x2 not x4, so a fair amount slower as ttttt suggests.

yo sorry for late response i dont check acer alot and dont get notifactions, im planning to upgrade my ram since im going to get another monitor, do you know how fast my motherboard can handle? like im talking about the MHz like can it handle 3200 MHz ram? i have no idea.

Since you do not login to to Acer community everyday. You can try change sttings in Account Options at upper right hand corner after signed-in. You can get E-mail notifications if someone responds to your posts.

If you want to get an additional monitor, there is no need to get additional RAM just for that purpose. The on-board graphics UHD 630 has enough video RAM to handle that additional monitor. Unless you want to improve your PC's performance a little by enabling the dual channel capabilities, using both RAM slots.

Go to Task Manager, check the memory section of the Performance tab, you can see how fast your RAM is running.

I think your motherboard can handle 2666 MHz, but there is another speed limit by the CPU.

For my Acer desktop, the motherboard supports 2666 MHz, but the CPU restricts it to 2400 MHz, so it is running at 2400 MHZ.
Using RAM faster than 2400 MHz is a waste for my case.

You can download and run the CPU-Z program to check your existing RAM and motherboard info. If you decide to add RAM, I always recommend people to add RAM matching the spec of the original RAM while need not be from the same manufacturer.

The Aspire XC-885 series uses a Intel B360 Chipset and supports either 2666MHz or 2400MHz DDR4 memory. You can purchase 3200 MHz and plug it in, but it will run at 2666MHz unless you also have 2400MHz memory installed, in which case it will run at 2400MHz.

@ttttt yea my cpu can only support 2400 MHz anyway I’m going to get the Corsair vengeance LPX. If I were to get a fast ram my cpu or motherboard couldn’t handle would it harm my pc? Because im going to upgrade later and I wouldent have to rebuy faster ram.

@ttttt also to add on, will the Corsair vengeance LPX work in my motherboard and if it doesn’t how would I find out What ram would support my motherboard

@ttttt also another question, im going to get the gt 1030 graphics card, and since im getting another monitor, do i need more ram to run windows 11? right now i have 8gb of ddr3

I do not have idea what kind of future upgrade you have in mind. Using this existing PC with i3-8100 CPU?

Also, there must be a mistake. Your existing 8GB RAM should not be a DDR3 one, must be DDR4.
The Corsair vengeance LPX is also a DDR4 RAM running at 2666 MHz. If you are still keeping the i3-8100 CPU, it will still limiting the RAM to run at 2400 MHz.

Using 2666 MHz RAM running at 2400 MHz will not damage the PC, just downgraded the speed by the motherboard.
Even if you can have a CPU that allows 2666 MHz RAM speed, I'll bet you will not notice a difference. It is just a small percentage difference, and this RAM speed is usually not a bottleneck for PC performance.

Yes, people reported that Win 11 needs little more memory than Win 10. Check the same Memory section and monitor your RAM usages and see typically how much RAM you use everyday. You are going to add RAM anyway.

Adding another monitor doesn't need more RAM, because the UHD 630 video RAM already allocated from the 8 GB RAM is enough to support that additional monitor. If you use the GT 1030 ( not GTX 1030?) in the future, VRAM will be from the graphics card.

I always suggest people to add RAM with the same spec with existing 8 GB RAM for "Optimal Performance", more economical too.

@ttttt there is no mistake I have ddr3 plus I have a intel i3 9100. And yea I’m getting the gt 1030 and not the gtx 1030 my psu isn’t powerful enough. And another thing, I don’t think you answered my second question, does Corsair vengeance LPX fit in my motherboard and should I use it? if I shouldn’t use it could you list a recommended ram you think I should use that is 16gb ddr4? That’s around 100 bucks?

@ttttt and for the future upgrading I’m basically going to rebuild my entire pc, I’m basically going to scrap everything expect the motherboard, case and psu. Everything else I’m going to re use

Surprised to find out that you can use DDR3 RAM in a motherboard with B360 chipset. My TC-885-UA91 also uses B360 chipset and an i3-9100 CPU, but the stock RAM is a DDR4 one.

How about download and run the CPU-Z program, check the memory section to confirm it?

Personally I have not used Corsair vengeance LPX RAM, according to the spec it should fit, but you insist that you are using DDR3 RAM, then I begin to doubt are you really using a motherboard that uses DDR3? How can you be so sure? Maybe some Acer Aces who have access to XC-885 motherboard diagrams can confirm that.

Let's wait a little until you confirm with the CPU-Z results.

DDR4 desktop RAM can be as low as USD $30 per 8GB ( if you want 2 x 8 GB). Go to Amazon or Newegg and do a search, there will be so many of them. I bought one V-color 8 GB DDR4 2666 MHz CL19 1.2V one to match the stock RAM spec of my TC-885-UA91.

Is your XC-885-ES13 a Hong Kong variant?

I have checked other links such as this, everything point to a DDR4 PC, not DDR3.

@ttttt well yea, cpu-z says its ddr4 but, task manger says its ddr3 lol, anyway, could you list some ram that you know would fit thats 16gb ddr4?

@ttttt honestly i think the corsair vengance LPX can work, my motherboard's ram slots are 288 pin SDRAM slots, and well the corsair vengrance LPX has it, so if you could do some research to confirm that it works since idk much about figuring out what stuff matches with pc's since i have no idea how to do that, and i dont wanna ruin my ram slots lol.

@ttttt okay, i keep thinking of stuff omg this SHOULD be the last question and sorry if im annoying you, like ive said previously i was going to get the gt 1030 from asus, and there are 2 versions from asus, the phoenix version and the low profile version, could you find out what power usage they both consume? and like ive said before im not very good at researching and ive spent like 6 hours tryna find out. and could you find out which one is better?

Wow! You get so many questions in one thread. Where under Task Manager that you saw that it is DDR3? I could not see it is DDR3 or DDR4 under Win 10 Task Manger. HWINFO64 and CPU-Z have that indication though.

O.K. I strongly believe your XC-885 motherboard is like my TC-885, so using DDR4 is the right one.

Don't worry about getting the wrong size RAM stick as long as you don't order SO-DIMM RAM for laptop by mistake, and it will not damage the motherboard. DDR4 RAM sticks have standard size.

This is the one that I ordered for my TC-885, working well:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YP6CW8P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

Compare the spec with what you found out from CPU-Z, I guess that will probably be the same. The corsair vengance LPX RAM sticks mostly have speed higher than 3,000 MHz, it will be a waste of money for getting higher spec than your motherboard and CPU can handle.

You can type some specs on the Amazon page search field, and will get a list of RAM sticks available.

GT-1030 should be O.K. with your current 300W PSU. Even a low profile GTX 1030 can be handled by that 300W PSU. Anything higher than the GTX 10xx series will need a PSU upgrade. For more precise info, you may want to visit the nVidia site to find out.
Try not to get the model that requires another 6-pin/8-pin power connectors.

The optical drive will not consume too much power, but if you want to disconnect it ( not removing it), just open up the PC and pull the power connector from the drive and the data connector from the motherboard will do it. To remove it, I'll advise going to the "Acer Support Videos" of the right pane here, type your PC's model number in the Youtube search field and find a video how other people take down the PC.

220W should be O.K. with GT 1030, but not the GTX-1030. Dell Inspirion line of desktops use GT 1030 with 220W PSU.
