Unable to Achieve 144Hz @ 4K on my XB3 Monitor

Hi

Can anyone PLEASE help me with the following problem:

I have an Acer XB3 27" 144Hz 4K monitor (Serial Number: XXXX).

I am unable to set the refresh rate above 120Hz at 4K resolution which is very frustrating as I spent £800 on this piece of hardware specifically so I could play at 144Hz in 4K.

What I have done so far:
  • Made sure '144Hz at 4k' mode is set to 'ON' in the monitor settings.
  • Made sure I am using the correct type of DisplayPort cable (DP 1.4 with DSR 1.2) - I have tried two different versions in case one was faulty
  • Tried every different possible combination of sockets in my GPU (RTX 3080) with sockets in my monitor
  • Tried plugging in 2 DP cables at once - This just turns the screen black
  • Tried to set a custom resolution in NVIDIA settings - The 'Customize' button is greyed out even with DSR turned off in the 3D settings
  • Tried to set a custom resolution using Custom Resolution Utility by ToastyX - This will not allow anything above 60Hz for some reason
  • Checked on testufo.com what my actual refresh rate is and it is 120Hz
  • Emailed Acer for support ... they took two weeks to answer and told me to try a different cable which I had already done
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

You will not het the 144HZ unless you overclock the device , look at the below specs

    Hi Jack

Thank you for your reply which leads to my next question which is ... how do I overclock it? From what I understand it is done either via the NVIDIA control panel which I cannot do as mentioned in my original post. Or it can be done using CRU which I have also tried without success as mentioned above.

    What am I missing?

    Thanks

Which NVIDIA GPU are you using? Does it support overclocking?

Overclocking not going to void the warranty unless you damage any components, but to be on the safer side tried to check with any local tech about it and than try

Yeah, an RTX 3080 certainly should support sending out an overclocked signal... Try here to see if it's explained well enough.
