I am trying in install Ubuntu 20.04 on an Aspire 3.  It has turned into a war of attrition.  Initially I installed from the USB and found that the USB would not see the hard drive.  I then twigged that closing the lid and re-opening would allow the drive to be seen and installed Ubuntu using the other option and re partitioning the drive in the process.

However, whenever I restart I'm getting a "Initramfs unpacking failed and that the UUID  is not found (proc/cmdline has the correct UUID)

I have tried sudo update -initramfs -c -k $(uname -r).  I also tried a boot disk repairer results here: http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/wRT3NTkHZZ/

I am running out of ideas.  Thoughts anyone?

This is the Result of Fdisk

Are you starting out with an empty ext4 GPT partitioned HDD? Or is Windows installed and you're trying to dual boot? BIOS must be in UEFI mode and AHCI sata mode.  Jack E/NJ

The bios is in UEFI mode and AHCI sata mode.  The laptop came with Windows 10 installed but I have re-partitioned the drive so that it has SWAP, filesystem, EFI & HOME

When I boot I go to busybox but there are no error messages.

Are you trying to install alongside Win10? The only prep needed for the install is to shrink the Windows C : \ partition leaving the empty space unallocated. Then let the Ubuntu installation stick do it's job to set the unallocated space up the way you want. If you still have issues I suggest  that you install Mint Cinnamon 20.1 instead cuz it's setup is a lot more polished than many of the other distros. Mint is all I use now on all my machines.   Jack E/NJ
