Hi -
Is it possible to run an external mic through the combo jack on an Aspire E1-572?
Have not found a way of configuring it to mic only.
Thank you.

    Good evening Raz7 !

Which EXACT model of your laptop and which version of Windows?

Check the notification options of the audio box in Windows.

    Hi MaClane,
Still no progress. I replaced the battery in the mic too.
When you go into Sound>> Recording>> Microphone>> Properties>> General: here the Jack Information shows Analog Jack
When you go into Sound>> Payback>> Speakers>> Properties: here the Jack Information shows the same Analog Jack and Left Panel 3.5mm Jack.
Now I would have thought the 3.5mm Jack is what I am inserting the microphone into.
Is the Analog Jack the desktop mic? The labelling is suspect. Recording on it is interfered with by drive noise which increases when I start recording on the particular software, hence the need to use an external one.
When you go into Microphone>> Properties>> Listen: you can see that it can be set up for the same jack to be connected to speakers. So you would think it should be possible to use an external mic.
I am probably wasting my time trying to do all this on this old model.

    Thanks again.

Your solution probably lies within the Realtek Audio Manager kinda like the following link.  I have an ES1-572 and have found its audio a PITA in general.

Thanks @mortac8 but mine does not have Realtek Audio Manager and what I have is fully enabled hence my question. I gave up a long time ago on this feature and just used the system mic which picks up all the CPU and fan noises unfortunately. I will not be able to rely on the Acer for my needs much longer.
