Aspire Z5771 shutdown/restart problem windows 10

Hello,

I have an all in one desktop -> Acer Aspire Z5771 -> BIOS P01 A0 -> Intel Core i3-2120 CPU 3,3BGHz -> memory 6144MB
It still worked well under Windows 7. I upgraded win 7 (full windows updated) to win 10 and the upgrade went well - without any problem -, and now win 10 starts up and works.

But when I hit the button -> Start -> Power -> shutdown or -> Start -> Power -> restart it shows the turning circle but then it stops turning and nothing happens …

What I already did …
- reinstalled win 10 several times
- ran sfc /scannow
- ran dism.exe /online /clean-image /checkhealth
- ran dism.exe /online /clean-image /restorehealth
- unchecked "Turn Fast startup …"
- chkdsk /r /f
- ran shutdows /s in DOS/Power Shel
- updated drivers
- ran memory checker
- …
But after doing all this, everything seems to be okay … no errors found but still shutdown and restart hangs/freezes.

I hope somebody knows a solution for my problem so the pc will shutdown/restart back correctly.

    I re-installed a clean windows 10 from an USB-stick and ran the updated for the Intel HD Graphics driver.

    Next I did what you suggest -> msconfig -> disable services -> disable startup.
    AND GUESS WHAT … the pc rebooted/shutdown!!!
    Then I started to enable the startup one by one and so far it works. It was the "Persistence Module from Intel Corporation" that let my pc hangs.
    It was that simple … pppfff . I could have think of that earlier …
    But now I don't yell "eureka" yet and wait and see if it stays this way …

    The only problem I still have is when I install e.g. the program "Malwarebytes", the problem (reboot/shutdown) is back.
    So there's still something wrong with drivers I guess. Anyone who knows which driver?.

    Thank you ALL for All the suggestion and the TIME you all spend with me to solve my problem so far.

    So far ... a happy person!

    Also try it in safe mode, you might have a third party driver or app that's hanging.

    I also have it in safe mode but not all the time, weird.
    Which third party driver can it be?

    That's the challenge. If it restarts fine from safe mode, but fails from a normal boot then it's pretty obviously not hardware or Windows. Check to see if anything is getting captured in Event Viewer, you might be lucky there. Also give it a try where you leave it stuck overnight to see if the crash sorts itself out or generates an event after enough time has passed. Next unplug everything except the basics, monitor, keyboard and mouse to see if not loading drivers for peripherals helps. Worst case is to uninstall all third party software and reinstall one at a time until it fails again...

    Sorry my mistake. In safe mode it restart and shutdown normally. It's in normal mode I'm having these restart and shutdown problems.
    Any suggestions?

  • I agree with colleague billsey. Have you checked if there are any drivers with problems in the device manager? There is also the possibility that the problem occurred when you upgraded windows 7 to windows 10, as you said here "It still worked well under Windows 7.     It would be interesting to reinstall windows 10, but formatting the hard drive and using a microsoft iso.

    I already have checked the device manager many times and have updated all drivers which has a new one and there are no "!" in front of them …

    Yes after upgrading win 7 to win 10, the start up and working are fine, no problems there.
    My only problem is that the shutdown and restart hangs -> so I have to push the power button 5 - 10 s to shut it down.
    But as you suggest, I'll try a clean re-install of  win 10 with a format of the hard disk and hope the problem will be gone … :/

    I reformatted the hard disk and did a clean install of windows 10 iso.
    -> the problem is still there so no solution … :'(

    Anybody has a solution or knows what it can be? … working on this problem now 1 month!

    Is the program "driverbooster" safe to use? Doesn't it install extra software (malware,...) on the PC and can I be removed safely?

    Okay I couldn't wait for your answer so I installed the program. I had to uncheck only one program :) .
    When I run the program it scans and downloads the drivers but when  it wants to install the drivers, it freezes at 1% …
    So it didn't install any "new" driver. The same happened in safe mode.

    I'm getting desperate …
    Any other suggestion?

    I'm installing them now one by one in steed of all together at once. That way I can check which driver freezes the program.

    All the Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family … freeze the program "DriveBooster".
    Anywhere else where I can find working working drivers?

    First, update your age old Legacy BIOS version P01.A0 (2012/05/16) to the last Legacy BIOS titled "BIOS for device with Ivy Bridge supported" date: 2012/06/18 Version: P03.A2 get it from here: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/AU/content/support-product/3959?b=1

    Note: your Aspire Z5771 DOES NOT HAVE a UEFI BIOS (but can be upgraded to a UEFI) which is the Aspire Z5771 titled "BIOS - UEFI for Windows 8 (Not for Upgrades)" version P11.B0 2013/07/05 (I've done this ugrade on my V3-571G from a Legacy to UEFI) but and warning, upgrading to a UEFI is a totally different procedure and should only be attempted by experienced tech's!

    Also, I would strongly suggest that you do a complete clean pre format of your HDD (or is it an SSD?) before you do a "Clean Install" of Win-10 (btw, an SSD will give you much better performance with Win-10 ) anyway, to do a complete clean pre format and install do this: 
    1. Boot from the Window 10 USB 
    2. Select the custom install option 
    3. Delete all the partitions on the HDD or SSD
    4. Install Win-10 to the newly formatted HDD or SSD space.
    This is another option from the cmd prompt:
    Open CMD prompt as administrator
    1) diskpart (press yes, to take you there)
    2) list disk
    3) Select either Disk 0 or Disk 1 etc (where Disk X is the Disk number of the HDD or SSD that you want to format)
    4) clean
    5) create partition primary 
    6) active 
    7) format fs-ntfs quick 

    That's it, as this will give you a clean install and also, will update your BIOS to the latest BIOS which is crutial.

    You think I can upgrade to BIOS version P03 A2 without any damage to the pc? I'm not an expert and always afraid to upgrade the BIOS.
    I wait for your answer first and I'll try that tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.
