Undervolting and Crash? Helios 300

Hey there, Ive got a Predator Helios 300. I got a new power source to hopefully charge with less voltage used therefore cooling my laptop a bit more.

I followed a guide for undervolting using the Intel XTU app and upon decreasing the core temp slightly, about 1.25, I went back to my game and suddenly my laptop restarted on its own.

ive never had his happen but I’m currently restoring my computer to the point just before I downloaded the XTU app and I’m hoping this issue was completely related to that and won’t happen again outside of using the app.

anyone have some insight as to what the problem may have been? Thank you!

The problem is this, that you have set certain Intel XTU priorities wrong, hence and why, your computer rebooted, especially under load and when playing game, it went beyond its capabilities and stopped and rebooted. My advice is, forget about all these performance tuning software, run your Helios 300 with OEM software and keep it simple! Overclocking is a factor of many variables and software tweaks and could damage your hardware, I wouldn't use them, I would upgrade and appropriately increase performance by increasing to better hardware specs (that are suitable for the OEM hardware that you have) and never overstress any component(s)!

Makes sense; I will avoid undervolting going forward.

a couple hours ago, my system restore to the point just before I finished downloading XTU was successful and I verified that the software was removed.

Having said this, do you think this one crash/undervolting event damaged my hardware at all? I’m kind of a worry wart when it comes to technology.

    thank you!

Theshizirl why use xtu if you can use TS and its much better than xtu check here but make sure to remove xtu completely first shutdown and reset bios to defaults and no crashing due to too much undervolting doesnt damage your system you just have to lower it just download the ready TS for your own cpu and open/turn on and youre good to go either create a task in the scheduler to auto start it or just manually start it when u logon its up to you make sure you dont uninstall the xtu service attached to PS that service has nothing to do with xtu software its related to PS only

I agreee with my colleague use Throttlestop. One of our trusted gaming members has designed custom setting packages for Throttlestop that have been tested and are safe, he has made custom One click Profiles for each CPU. Go here and follow his simple instructions
