Issue with an Acer TC-780

Hi,

One of my users has an Acer TC-780 and she was reporting her computer too slow on Windows 10 Pro.

To address that I bought a Crucial SSD and cloned her HD to that using Acronis True Image.

After that, when I replaced her HD with the SSD it wouldn't boot for nothing.

I tried everything I could on the computer BIOS, but it simply doesn't start from the clone.

I've been doing that with other computers from different brands and it works fine.

Could anyone help me with that, please?

Thanks,

Crucial SSDs tend to have long names.  I noticed that there is a bug fix for TC-780 BIOS for long SSD names.

If your current BIOS version is R01-xx, then the latest BIOS for your mainboard is R01-A1

If your current BIOS version is R02-xx, then the latest BIOS for your mainboard is R02-B2

    You can't use an R01-xx on an R02-xx mainboard......and vice-versa.

I'm not sure if that is the problem though.

The BIOS flash instructions are in the "Appendix" folder.

Firstly what BIOS are you running on the T780? Boot the computer with the old spinner HHD and check BIOS version in "System Information" to do that, go to the left part of taskbar go to “Type here to search” > type System Information > click on System Information > look at BIOS Version Date, which should tell you which BIOS you are running on the T780. You might be running the OEM BIOS pre R01.A1 which addresses the “Fix SSD device name too long cause POST hang-up issue”

Here are the 8 BIOS updates for the Aspire T780:

R01.A1 (2016/10/17) which has the following fixes:

1, Fix SSD device name too long cause POST hang-up issue.

    2. Disable WOL when on board LAN is disabled.

    3. Add beep when fast startup enabled.

    Or

    R02.A1 (2017/02/07) to R0A4 (2018/01/03)

    Or the last BIOS update

    R02-B0 (2018/07/12)

Update the BIOS to the latest BIOS and then, don't have the OEM HDD spinner installed anywhere in the motherboards other SATA plug(s), boot the Windows 10 pro cloned to the Aspire T780 with the Crucial SSD only which should work, if you cloned it properly and you didn't make any mistakes? Just as a suggestion, I would use the Macrium Reflect v7 clone.

Btw, I’ve got a 1TB SSD as a main boot drive (C:) on one of my systems and have used them on many systems with Windows 10 Pro's with UEFI Secure Boot and its always worked perfectly for many years. I've used the Samsung 850 EVO as the Samsung SSDs all come with their “Data Migration” program, which is excellent, simple and very efficient in cloning, without any complications, corruptions and I’ve had no problems.
