My Acer Spin 1 SP111-31 streams choppy live television streaming. On occasion it has trouble with buffering from streaming movies. The most significant is live TV, i.e., football games. I have a 32g HD, and it's at 20.1 full - 7.84 open. It's not the cable company or the modem or the router - the desktop works fine on wireless, no issues or choppy with streaming. Anyone have this issue and be able to solve it? Thank you.

Open Control Panel. Search 'power plan'. Click 'choose power plan' in left pane. Change from Balanced to High Performance mode. Shut down. Turn machine back on. Battery must be near 100% charged and charger plugged in BEFORE streaming load starts. Jack E/NJ

    Thank you JackE!
I only have a "Balanced" option. I can create a new plan or change those settings.
What settings would be for the High Performance?

Did you click on 'choose a power plan' in the left pane in Control Panel. If yes, there should be a down arrow to 'show additional plans'. Click on that 'down arrow; High performance should then be visible. Jack E/NJ

I've tried posting the same reply 5 times now. Hmmmm.....
Looks like this is an omission by Windows in an OS upgrade: https://tunecomp.net/add-high-performance-plan-windows-10-power-options/
    I can add one
Do you suggest I only stream games with the laptop plugged in and the battery at 100%?

I meant to say, "I can add one... looks like the Display and Sleep are set to "Never." ?

Let's start over. Open Control Panel again. Search 'power plan'. In the left pane, click on 'choose a power plan', NOT 'edit  power plan'. High Performance should be listed as an option. If not, there should be a down arrow to 'show additional plans'. Click the down arrow to see if High Performance is now visible. Jack E/NJ

    Here is what I did.
    Opened Control Panel
    Clicked on Power Options
In the left pane is: Control Panel Home, Choose what the power buttons do, Choose what closing the lid does, Create a power plan, Choose when to turn off the display, Change when the computer sleeps

Created a power plan of High Performance. I chose "Never" under all the options.
Restarted the laptop, plugged it in, and started the streaming.

    Still choppy. Will post screenshots.

Change all previous settings under high performance to NEVER turn off display and NEVER put computer  to sleep. Jack E/NJ

Yes, thank you. This screen shot was before I changed it. It still was having problems.
This is only an issue for LIVE streaming TV. When I watch other on demand shows & movies, this isn't an issue. Is this because the PC is so minimal in its capacity?

It's likely not the PC. What exactly is your setup procedure for watching live TV? What exactly is your setup procedure for watching shows & movies? Jack E/NJ

I log in to http://watchtv.cox.com - through Cable provider Cox. They are coming out Sunday to check on things. But the desktop I use I tested on WiFi and there isn't the choppy issues. The Desktop is a Dell 3000, Win 7, i7 3.6GHz, 16G DDR3 Ram. That's why I thought it might be a performance issue.

For shows/movies I will stream from Amazon Prime, Kanopy, or PBS.org - no issue with that. Sometimes buffering on the laptop, but that's separate.
Also experimented live TV with the laptop same distance as the desktop from the router, still had the issue.

Have not tested plugging in the laptop directly to the router. Could experiment with that, would need to find USB to Ethernet adapter.

Do you have any control over the resolution? 1280x760p vs 1920x1080p? Jack E/NJ

I can change the settings on my laptop but not the stream from the provider.
Just had the tech out here today. The desktop runs well and my Amazon Fire 8HD tablet runs well.
Are you sure it isn't the laptop?

Try changing the display setup to 1280x760p from the ***recommended*** 1920X1080p. Jack E/NJ

Have not tested plugging in the laptop directly to the router via Cat5 cable. Could experiment with that, would need to find adapter to USB.
