Currently looking at the Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U, GeForce MX150, 8GB RAM Memory, 256GB SDD and want to know if it is as good as advertised. Looking to run a virtual box image of Ubuntu, so definitely curious if it is capable as well.

Yes. I also recommend trying out VMWare's player using a dynamic virtual disk file. It's free for home use. https://www.vmware.com/products/player/faqs.html . I'm running 32-bit SuSE linux, Win98SE and WinXP as guests on a single Windows host. What's nice is that with sufficient memory resources, they all can run at the same time and communicate with each other through the network. I think VMWarePlayer is a much better 32-bit option than VBox.

Your other option is dual boot with something like 64-bit Mint Cinnamon which I'm running as default boot on another machine. I've set up Cinnamon 18.3 with the almost the same look & feel as the last decent Windows version --- in my opinion Win7. https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/comment/598047/#Comment_598047
