Hello,

I've had my computer for a little over a year now, and recently, it's begun shutting down occasionally when not plugged in. It happens mostly when I'm moving the computer. This hasn't been a problem for me before a few weeks ago. I've already tried resetting the battery, and it didn't help.

I recently lost one of the screws on the bottom of the computer, so I replaced it with a new one. I'm not sure if that could be a potential cause of the shutdowns, but I suppose it's possible.

I'm running Windows 10.0.17134

Thank you!

I think you nailed the cause. A mainboard safety switch on most of these laptops is designed to cut all power if the case is misaligned, loose or opened. It sounds like this switch is being activated on your machine by simply moving it or using the keyboard/touchpad.

The fix is relatively simple involving tape & spacers if the case and screws can't seem to be aligned or tightened properly. Here are two solutions posted by other users as being successful for machines with similar mainboards.  Jack E/NJ

Thank you for the link! Hopefully the solutions works for me... I'll keep monitoring my computer for the next week and see if it happens again. Hopefully, I don't need to come back to this thread and try again.
