Hi - Nvidia control panel shows I have latest Nvidia driver.  Doesn't seem to be being intermediated by Acer.

I gather doing a 'restart' flushes the hibernation cache.  Fast Start only works when you shutdown the PC.

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-turn-off-fast-startup-windows-10-a.html

I'm guessing there is something in a clean boot that kicks the screen into action, possibly even the 144Hz mode gets confused during a 'fast start'.  Though interesting no one else seems to have this exact problem.  I'd prefer to have fast start enabled.

    Cheers

Its just in Acer, but multiple brands have issue with fast start. All in all, you might spend an extra 2-3 seconds, maybe 5 max in booting up laptop. So why not disable it? It helps troubleshoot problems easier.

Try using the Acer designated Nvidia driver.
It obviously has some sort of optimization as the latest nvidia driver renders a 12k score on firestrike while Acers driver renders a 14k score.

Hi Red-Sand - interesting, where did you see this?

I don't think I've done anything 'clever' with the Nvidia driver, though it has updated itself.

It looks like the Acer driver is just the Nvidia driver from 21st May version 388.92.  Latest Nvidia version 398.36.

It seems Firestrike is now a paid-for benchmark?  No longer free?  Otherwise I'd test it myself too :)

I think it's free here at the bottom

I saw it from testing myself on my 500.

Ah, they do still have a 'basic edition' though perhaps less obvious than it used to be :)

Hey - I ran the Firestrike benchmark with my current/latest Nvidia drivers and got 13781.  Not tried it with overclocking or fans or undervolting (if that's possible with Helios 500?)  Result : https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/27736378

I guess one thing to watch is repeat running of the test, which may introduce some thermal throttling down to 12,000?

Hi, I bought Acer Helios 500. Built-in Window 10 is damaged in my laptop. I want to install new Win 10. What do I need to do step by step for Window installation. Although BIOS setting know Window Boot Usb , it can not load window files and it just show black screen. It cannot continue window installation.

Hi KoKoThein,  I suggest you ask this as you're own question as its not got much to do with my original question, which was about black screen while using windows - not installing.  It sounds like you've tried to do a complete reinstall from USB drive?  The simpler way may have just been to tell Windows 10 to re-install itself using these kind of instructions -

    https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/how-to/windows/how-reinstall-windows-3535423/

You might also want to phone Acer directly, if your Acer 500 was faulty.

    Good luck!
