If you getting temperatures of 97C, you need to contact Acer Support for them to repaste your CPU. Nothing else is going to fix your temperatures.

I would suggest you to use non-metal based thermal paste, as metal based thermal paste tend to react with the CPU die, leaving marks after it is removed and it is very hard to clean. Also avoid IC-Diamond as it scratches the processor's die. Repasting voids warranty, so better contact Acer support as skelomorph has suggested.

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

By conductive, I meant electrical conductive. All metal based thermal pastes are electrically conductive. You should be very careful if you are planning to repaste with liquid metal thermal paste, because 1 little drop spilt  on the motheboard and then that is it. It is very hard clean, if on the motherboard it is almost impossible to clean it all and as it is electrically conductive, it may short out your motherboard. Electrically non-conductive paste is the opposite. It is based on a substance that doesn't conduct electricity. These thermal pastes are usually easier to apply than metal liquid and nothing is going to happen if you accidentally spill it on the motherboard.

As I mentioned non-metal thermal pastes are easier to apply. It is likely that you may fail at your first attempt to repaste(means the temerature result will be unsatisfactory), which means you have to open the laptop again and repaste it again, by removing the termal paste from the CPU and GPU die. Liquid metal is harder to remove and coffee filter and rubbing alcohol won't work there.

You need to replace the thermal compound. I recommend liquid metal. There are a bunch of guides on youtube. My CPU never goes over 70c now in my Predator.

As stated you may well need to replace the CPU & GPU thermal compound, however there is another option as only Cores 3 & 4 are running high, which is systematic of the heat sync not being torqued/tightened evenly.

You would still need to remove the bottom cover, however not need to disturb or remove the cooling assembly, just back off the screws then carefully tighten counting the turns to ensure even clamping force, by turning each screw 1-2 turns sequentially.

Have you considered limiting or turning off Turbo Boost? Repaste is fairly straight forward on the G9, equally one needs to be very carful with the connections to the board.  My own i7 7700HQ G9 793 was capable of undervolting to -140mV, are you looking at peak temp or the average?

How are you testing Prime95 or real-time gaming? at -128mV with my  G9 793 there is no thermal throttling under absolute synthetic maximum load from Prime95. I to can go deeper to -140mV equally stability is paramount as the notebook is a production tool directly generating revenue.

90C average temperature isn't acceptable in my opinion.

That's right up there, something is definitely wrong My Predator 17 (7700HQ & 1080) just breaks 90C and that's with Prime95 generating max temp and a -128mV offset for the CPU Core & Cache, CoolBoost on, fans at 4600.  Your going to need to look deeper, likely a bad paste job at the factory.

Artic Silver 5 is a good choice however you need to ensure there is no contact with any components or board trace lines, MX 4 might be better as it's non conductive.  Many have opinions personally any reputable thermal compound will be ok, even the OEM compounds are basically ok as long as they are applied correctly.  In your case opt for a thermal compound that's non conductive as this removes one thing that can go wrong.  With good preparation, application and assembly you should see a significant difference.

Try to find a guide on your particular model on how to disassemble and repaste the CPU/GPU.  Be well prepared and give yourself plenty of time, have the right tools and cleaning compound. Hardest part will be getting the base of the notebook off and disconnecting the fans power cables. Reassembly just ensure you have even pressure across the heat sync by tightening the screws a little at a time until you have the right level of retention. don't fall into to the trap of thinking everything must be as tight as humanly possible :)

As a baseline my Predator 17 averages 75C (-128mV undervolt, stock OEM thermal compound) while playing Hellblase Senua's Sacrifice at max settings.  Smaller notebooks may run at higher temperature having less thermal headroom, equally the Predator 17 has the GTX 1070 with Turbo on running as hot as the CPU.  Doubt I'll repaste mine unless I keep it long enough to need the fans and heat syncs cleaning out as I don't think I'll see a significant difference, maybe 5C-7C at most.

The best non-conductive and not metal based thermal paste is thermal grizzly kryonaout, but if you want something cheaper go for arctic mx-4. This is a video tutorial of how to disassemble predator 17.
