edited October 2023 in Chromebooks

I purchased my chromebook nearly two months ago and it was operating fine until four nights ago when I closed the lid for about 5 minutes and when I reopened it the screen is black. It seems to be in constant sleep mode. The blue light is on and it´s fully charged.
I tried a hard rest but it didnt solve my problem. Can anyone help me please?

Are you getting any lights or activity at all? Do you see the charging light come on when you plug in the AC Adapter?

Could you try holding down ESC and the Refresh Key (like F3) and then hitting the power button?

Yes, all the lights are functioning including the charger light.

I have already tried holding down the ESC , Refresh key and the power button. But it didn't solve my problem.

    Any other ideas?

Just to be on the safe side, try pressing and holding the power button for 30 seconds or so to make sure it's actually fully powered off, then wait a small while and turn it back on. That will sometimes help when it's hung trying to wake up.

I came to this post because I have been having a black screen problem with a newish CB3-111. I was looking to do a hard battery reset, but could not find the supposed pinhole via which to do the reset. Where is it ?

But I have just tried the Esc,Refresh,Power sequence suggrested and that has worked. Thanks

Usually this situation will call for re-installing Chrome OS. To do that at this point, you need two Chtomebooks [or box or whatever] but not the same model. And you will need an SD drive or thumb drive of at least 4G capacity. Then get the Chrome Recovery App and follow the instructions here:

    https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/6002417

Note that all the data you stored on your Chromebook will disappear. But you shoulda not put it there in the first place. You shoulda put it in the cloud. They gave you free space, didn't they?! And if you want to srore stuff that only a terrorist should see, then you shoulda used a SD drive.

And when they ask for a model number, it's on the screen, not on the back of the Chromebook. Surprise!!

I experienced this is exact problem, I originally and thought it could be the systems os but it wasn't because I was able to plug it in to a monitor and it worked fine, I found a temporary solution, at the back of the screen if you hit it (not hard just a tap) in different places it will then turn on but I recommend taking it to someone to have a look at!

Sounds like a hardware/cable issue. Are all of the screws hand-tight ?

Hi I was just watching a movie then stood up to do something. When I came back my screen was white. I tried the esc, refresh and power button thingy several times but it just gives an exclamation mark and its still white. Please help!!!

Try the long press of the power button, it should force a full power off after a few seconds. Once it's sure to be fully off just turn it on like normal.

Same thing happened to mine as well. Tapping back side fixed it. Figured out it was happening every time we flipped the screen greater than 180, clearly a loose wire or hardware problem. Should have returned the thing to the store right away, don’t know why we didn’t. Now it is dropping the WiFi over and over, also a common problem with this machine as I understand. I doubt I will buy another Acer machine ever again.

I had the black screen, I took the back of the computer off, jiggled the wire to the screen and put unit back together. That seemed to work for about 5 mins. The unit went black again with the power/battery strength blinking orange and blue. Shut the unit down will try again tomorrow. I'm 2 minutes away from tossing it into my pool.

I had this same issue.  Black screen with backlight on.  No resetting or keystrokes worked. I had previously replaced the LCD screen.  It turns out that the connector on the back of the screen went slightly ajar.  The adhesive used to keep that connector in place wasn't good enough the second time around.  I reconnected it and affixed it with packing tape.

There are few moving parts on this device.  The display connector cable is one of them.  Consider replacing the cable if you have a backlit screen without any display.

My screen is black, we’ve tried all of the restart suggestions above. When I do the
esc, refresh & power it cycles and then comes back on but the screen is super dark. I can make out the google chrome logo but cannot get the screen to get brighter. Any suggestions?

@KellyR511 start a new thread with your issue, it sounds like yours might be just the opposite of what the thread is talking about. In your case it's maybe the backlight that isn't working, since you can see a faint image. Include your full model number, a description of the problem and what steps you might have tried already.
