My Acer Aspire M Ultrabook display goes black once turned on.

My Acer Aspire M Ultrabook once powered on, I see the Acer Logo and then the screen goes black. I can still see my mouse cursor and I can see it as I move it about the screen. I've tried FN F5 and FN F6 and the screen is still black. The only thing I have done differently was the other day a couple of times when I was done using my computer instead of clicking on Hibernate I choose sleep, The screen goes dark as it normally does in Hibernate but instead of full reboot it would just wake up to where I left off. However I believe the last time I used the computer I did choose Hibernate. I cannot even bring up the start screen by choosing that key on the keyboard. So I don't know how I can even start in safe mode. Now I must either close the laptop or press and hold the power button to shut it off. Obviously the laptop is useless to me this way and I'm using my son's to send this plea for help. I searched through the questions here and I'm not seeing anything similar so I'm hoping someone can help me. Thank you.
