I'm sorry I cannot help you, as I don't own a TravelMate yet. However, I've thought of buying one and installing ubuntu as you did. Besides the keyboard backlight, is there anything that doesn't work? How did you install ubuntu? Did you partition the drive to be able to dual boot ubuntu and windows, or just ubuntu?
