Good stuff Firewalker. BTW, it may depend on one's use case, what goes on the NVME. In my case, I need to write 4 videostreams at the same time, the NVME does that. The OS (Win10) is on the SSD, which is plenty fast enough for that.

From my PH517-51 2x NVMe like this one And one SATA SSD (with OS)

One additional tip: when writing bigger chunks of data to the NVME, such as a video capture, first put the cooling in Max mode. Use the Predator Sense app for that. If you don't, Auto cooling mode will not kick up the fans, since it seems they only are triggered by high cpu/gpu temps, not by high NVME temps.

Did you follow my instructions? Were they of any help? How far did you get? (I'm using an Intel version of the Helios btw, not AMD)

Same here, new 1.16 BIOS installed without any warning, then bricked my AHCI settings, so nothing booted anymore. Had to restore them in the BIOS to make laptop bootable again. No fix for the NVME overheating, so still running on MAX cooling and then it is fine. Completely unacceptable that there is no yes/no option to…

So it seems that with Max cooling on, it is workable. Still kind of strange that NVME's at idle are already 65 or 75 celsius. Will look into possibility for heatsink, not sure if anything will fit. And if it has any effect ;-)

Can confirm that temp of both NVME's is around 85 celsius in idle !! When writing lots of data to them (i.e. capturing video), it rises to 100 and then the system shuts off. With max cooling (Predator Sense) i get them to around 75 celsius in idle. More testing to come.

Wow Pat, amazing advice, thanks so much ! I will test soon, would be awesome if this is what happens, and that it could be prevented. Will absolutely keep you posted. Thanks so much again, I would love to be able to solve this issue. (My Helios 500 has an i9 8950HK by the way) Cheers Arie

You are welcome. Writing it up, makes me feel that all the detours I took, before I figured out the right way to do this, were worth it ;-)

Thanks, yes, I asked indeed for one of the two: a new equivalent system (no more Predator laptops for me!!), or the full sum back. It has warranty and is less than 1 year old. Cheers, Ario

Reboots (Uncorrectable error), probably due to overheating, have stayed away. BUT the older malfunction is back: http://community.acer.com/t5/Predator-Laptops/G9-591-no-audio-from-speakers-Win-10-0-14393/m-p/490992#M3283 The sense pin is probably broken AGAIN, so no audio from the speakers, and this time not even from the…

After 3 mainboards, I am not having a 4th one put in, since the sense pin misproduction will come back on every 'new' mainboard.

Thanks for your reaction; the laptop was swiftly repaired (new MoBo, the second time in 1 month) and the first impressions are positive. I will have to use it for some more weeks, to again be able to trust it, but the first signs are hopeful. Cheers, Arie

Hmmmm sorry to hear that. Plus, thanks for sharing with this community! I truly have always loved the brand, but something seems to be going wrong lately. Will keep the forum updated about how my Predator behaves, once I get it back. Best greetings, Arie

Thanks so much, great reply !! Yes now that you mention it, I was fiddling with drivers and the speakers worked for a few minutes. So indeed, both HW and SW seem to blame. Quite worrying, that both seem faulty. And that the headphone sensing seems to activate in some cases, without anything being plugged in! The search for…

Thanks for your input. Will send mine back soon. Maybe I should consider using usb for headphone-out, so as not to lose the speaker-out again ...

OK I'm pretty sure the so-called sense pin in the headphone jack went bad. So now the machine constantly 'senses' headphones plugged in. For desktops (without built-in speakers) one can re-route audio ports, this doe snot work for laptops. Seems all I can do, is claim warranty. A very clear description of a comparable…

hmmm the HD Audio Manager tool seems to indicate that my heaphones are plugged into the mini jack port, which they ARE not. That would explain why no audio is sent to the built in speakers. For a workaround, I'll check if there is some kind of re-routing trick that I can do. As for the real solution, this can still be…

Hmm you are right; http://community.acer.com/t5/Predator-Laptops/G9-591-no-audio-from-speakers-Win-10-0-14393/m-p/477362 should be it.
