I managed to find a solution that involved copying and pasting older hive files. This has enabled me to get the laptop to reboot into Windows normally without the need to repair or reinstall the operating system. Is the option to Retain user Data on the default path through the recovery process or do I have to make specific selections to get to it? Many thanks.
