  • Thanks. Great list on the German site. Yes, I have the Black Edition, which is why I was under the impression that it should have the DP Alt. I'll have to try some other things - maybe it's just a cable problem... maybe delete and reload the drivers.
  • A couple of links on how to set up and use Throttlestop: Read 1st while setting up - https://www.notebookcheck.net/ThrottleStop-Primer.213140.0.html This is more details for later - http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/the-throttlestop-guide.531329/
  • Here is an updated version of my previous solution from my other thread on this issue: I've done quite a bit of research into this issue, and it's not something that Acer can "fix" easily. The slowdown behavior seems most prevalent to Skylake based laptops from Lenovo, Acer, and MSI. It is caused by a combination of…
  • Not trying to be sarcastic, but my solution is simple - I'm buying a better computer next time I'm back in the U.S. I am fed up with this Acer - touchpad driver crashing daily (and lame touchpad to begin with), USB problems, Thunderbolt driver problem, wireless connection issues, external monitor incompatibility, frequent…
  • I've done quite a bit of research into this issue now. The slowdown behavior seems most prevalent to Skylake based laptops from Lenovo, Acer, and MSI. It is caused by a combination of Intel's, Microsoft's, and manufacturers' firmware/software. Basically it's intentional core-parking and thermal throttling at an overly…
  • Hi - I'm having EXACTLY the same problem as you - happens when the battery hits exactly 40% and pegs the cpu at 780-790 Mhz. It also started back in November as best I can remember. So there must have been an update that did this... Anybody at Acer know what's going on here? Here's my thread on the issue:…
  • Hi, unfortunately the BIOS update had no effect . Here's a pic of my settings and CPU state while this is happening. Unfortunately, with my machine, it doesn't just slow down a bit - it becomes totally unusable. (It is throttling the cpu to a steady 780-790 Mhz and happening when ny battery level gets to precisely 40%, so…
  • I believe that Microsoft has already registered your machine, so the Product Key isn't necessary. But I would check with Acer on that.... There is also Acer recovery media available if you can wait for it to arrive: US: https://store.acer.com/en-us/extended/recovery/ Canada: https://store.acer.com/en-ca/extended/recovery/…
  • Hi, thanks - The BIOS version is 1.02, date is 9/25/2015. So hopefully that's the problem. A bit surprising to me that the Acer Care Center doesn't check for outdated BIOS. (I have already changed the CPU settings, etc. in advanced power options and that had no effect.) Just updated BIOS. Keeping my fingers crossed... Will…
  • Possible that the technician never put the recovery partition on the new HDD. Personally, unless I had a disk image with irreplaceable stuff on it, I would just download a new Windows 10 and do a clean install at this point. Nothing to lose - except some Acer bloatware
  • I agree - the network port is ridiculous... I have to use it a couple of times a day and it's a struggle every time. re: WIn10 upgrade - it's worth it, so keep trying! First - there are some people who report it can take up to 24 hours!!! for the upgrade to complete. But if you have given it that much time already - try…
  • If you don't mind blowing $20 (which is refundable actually, if it fails to work for you), this boot repair utility is probably your best chance: http://neosmart.net/EasyRE/Features/ I have not had to use it, myself, but it has been well regarded for some time and is much easier for a beginner than going through…
  • Hi - Thanks again for the detail. It looks like a pretty straightforward job - but at this point it's definitely not worth doing. I am already getting more numb to the sound Just wondering in case it gets progressively louder.
  • If you're referring to that light area above the word "Ask", it is probably not damage, but something behind the panel (inside the case) pressing on it slightly. I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 that exhibits this same "feature" - and it's very common with them.
  • In my limited knowledge - except that I have the same exact machine - it looks like a hardware problem to me. Maybe just a solder or connector. I have used the left side USB to run an external Asus usb monitor, and it worked great. The only step I could think not mentioned by philetus would be to run SFC/scannow from an…
  • Hi - thanks for taking the time to reply to my question. I do now believe, after some detailed experimentation, that it ISa fan noise. It is intermittent because the fan comes on and off, but here's why I didn't think it was fan noise before - the sound is a result of some internal resonance (or maybe out of spec bearing)…
  • Hi - the machine was purchased on Amazon from AcerRecertified.com, which I assumed was Acer-rebuilt stuff. I have bought tons of Dell DIRECT refurbs, and some Apple DIRECT refurbs and literally never had a single problem! I only found when I received the PC that it's remanufactured from an "authorized" 3rd party. With only…
  • IMO, the best value and quality mix for adapters and docks are the Plugable products. You might check their website to see if anything there works for you.
  • Well, I tried an HDMI to DVD-D cable that's rated for 4K, and it was no help. Max resolution available on the Dell 3007 still showing up as 1280. The same cable supplies 1600x1200 fine to my Dell 2007's (from the VN7). Still wondering if anyone is running a DVI external monitor with a VN7 - and if so, how?
