Do recall what WIFI caed you have in there ? For instance I use an Intel 4965G adapter and had to load the driver from Intel's site in order for it to work. I run W7 Ultimate 64 bit on a modified Aspire 5315. Even with all that a Intel driver had to be loaded up.

Well that sure renders things aschew. I don't know what motherboard one could use to transform it to one that at least gives one the option of removing the main CPU for service, etc, without de soldering it. I hate to say it, but it seems like the easiest way would be to get a newer laptop.
