  • Also make sure in network adapters, properties, power management, that the box is UNCHECKED that allows the pc to turn off power for the adapter.
  • I'd dump that Antheros adapter and get an Intel 6200, 6300, or 7260 mini card. They can be had on the cheap at ebay and drivers are readily avail at Intel's site. I'm running an Intel 4965agm in this unit I'm using writing this and it never gives me trouble. Just make sure what ever you do, that once you get the adapter…
  • Do recall what WIFI caed you have in there ? For instance I use an Intel 4965G adapter and had to load the driver from Intel's site in order for it to work. I run W7 Ultimate 64 bit on a modified Aspire 5315. Even with all that a Intel driver had to be loaded up.
  • Glad you were able to find help locally. The ribbons can be deceptive when installed on the mb. Some of the ribbon will show even though it has fit into the receptacle all the way. As long as the keyboard functions properly with all keys doing what they're assigned to do, you should be good to go and have learned more…
  • Replacement keyboards fit a number of different model Acers. If the ribbon looks just like the one you took out, then it should go in and clip down with the retainers on the motherboard. I have replaced a number of keyboards with aftermarket boards from ebay with zero problems. Maybe you should spend another 10.00 or so…
  • Well that sure renders things aschew. I don't know what motherboard one could use to transform it to one that at least gives one the option of removing the main CPU for service, etc, without de soldering it. I hate to say it, but it seems like the easiest way would be to get a newer laptop.
  • LegendOfBloop wrote:Is there a way of taking out the motherboard and putting a new one in and installing a graphics card and CPU? The CPU is soldered, or the graphics cpu is soldered ? I can understand the graphics cpu being a part of the mb, but not the main processor.
  • Acer deemed the material not complying with it's discussion rules and rightly so. I forgot about that. If you goggle Acer 5517 Service Manual, a link to it will show up in PDF form. I believe it's from Acer in Australia or Austria. It's in English. I didn't realize you had used the unit for awhile after the BIOS flash. Ah,…
  • Well if you feel comfortable in doing so, here is the 5517 service manual that provides in depth how the unit works, dis-assembly, trouble shorting, etc, here it is in PDF. It has excellent info on trouble shooting as well as how to work on the unit. IF the CMOS battery has to be changed out, it will have to be desoldered…
  • There's a fairly decent youtube vid on disassembling the 5517. Just do a search. Yes the CMOS battery in a simple round affair located on the back, possibly in one of the corners. It's about the dia of a dime. Are any of the indicator lights coming on in the front ? Is the fan staying on all the time now ? Being as old as…
  • It is strange that the only thing you did was pull the ram out and placed it back in and now it acts like this. The fan coming on and shutting off is not a good sign. If you have a used computer parts place around you, it might be a feasible to go buy a used ram module rated at PC2-6400 CL 5 or 6, voltage at 1.8 volts. I…
  • You have to remeber that my unit's are modified 5315's and are different than a stock Acer but if you want to try, pull all power from the unit. Baatery, AC power, etc. I usually unplugged the CMOS battery if not soldered in to rest BIOS back to orig factory specs. On some one has to short the CMOS battery out according to…
  • So you're saying even without an external moniror plugged in, you still can't see an image on THAT screen ? Will it boot into BIOS with a visible screen ? To be honest, it sounds like an internal problem. The MB or an excessive amount of debris built up on the cooling raditor where the fan blows out the hot air. Very…
  • Maybe not. I had a problem with one of my 5315's that acted like this and had to go through what some might call a "hard start" but got it to go. The biggest problem is overheating on Acer's seems like. They can be very sensitive to overheating and steps hav to be taken to insure they run as cool as they can or under each…
  • Ive had a like problem where things get goofy. I have done a few 5315's [ One of my fav Acers !] after changing out the core, the memory, the WIFI, the hard drive, upgrading the cooling system, etc, and then installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate. When it booted, I couldn't load the OS for anything ! Well,…
  • One thing you can do is go into safe mode. Once at desktop, go to the search bar and type in MS CONFIG. Once you get in there, you see a number of sub menus. Click on START UP and unclick everything that you don't recognize. Make sure you keep the programs that start with MS or Microsoft and Acer start up programs. Then go…
  • I didn't realize that posting a direct link to an .exe file was frowned upon, so in following Acer's guidelines. here is a link to a page from Microsoft that will allow you to download the Live Essentials 2009 program. The page will give you the option of the 2012 program, or the 2009 program and of course you'd want the…
  • After you back up your contacts and whatever file-messages you want to say two folders 1 for contacts and 1 for messages in maybe Documents, Un-install the current Live Essentials, all of it, and reboot. Then download this email platform from MS which is Live Essentials 2009. After it loads open it and choose whatever Live…
  • These are not official Acer endorsed drivers. You use at your own risk. They should work but as mentioned, use at your own risk. http://upperplace.com/notebooks-drivers.htmlhttp://upperplace.com/notebooks-drivers.html Scroll down to Acer Aspire V3-731 Drivers and click link.
  • Next time you hook a blue tooth devise to the unit, open "devises and printers" in control panel and see if your hardware is located there. Can you pair the devise ? Or it that the problem ?
