There can be several reasons why your Windows Live Mail is not working. I recommend you to repair your Windows Live program and see if that resolves the issue. You can do this by following the steps below:
    1. Click "Start" and go to "Control Panel"
    2. Under Programs, click on "Uninstall a Program"
    3. Go to "Windows Live Essentials" and select "Uninstall/ Change"
    4. In the window that comes up, click "Repair all Windows Live programs"
    5. After the repair is completed, restart your computer and see if your Windows Live Mail is working properly.

Thank you for reply. First, may I ask----this operation won't affect all my e-mail storage to date, will it? Also--just to be more specific--what I can't do now that I've been able to do previously is this: I'll be on e.g. a retail site and I want to send pic of an item for sale to a friend. I click on either the "e-mail this page" icon or the "send this page as a link) icon on MY Command Bar at top of MY screen. Just doesn't work anymore !! I'll wait to hear back from you. Thanks again

The error "Ox80040607 Source D3DX10_42" is usually associated with Movie Maker. Before proceeding with any further troubleshooting, we recommend you to take a complete backup of all your emails, contacts, calendars, and other important information in the account. To know how to do this, you can refer to the following Microsoft support link:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/mail-import-backup-restore

As the error you mentioned is associated with Movie Maker, i suggest you to uninstall just the Movie Maker first and see if that resolves your issue. To know how to do this, you can refer to "To uninstall a Windows Essentials program in Windows 7 or Windows Vista" section on the following Microsoft support page:

If removing just the Movie Maker component does not resolve your issue, you can refer to the following link for some more troubleshooting options:
Important: Some of the steps mentioned in the following link are technical in nature. We suggest you to take suitable technical assistance wherever necessary.

Thanks for reply. OK, the only things I know of that I have relative to Movie Maker is some British info on my ancestors--from reliable sources. I looked at details (I am ignorant) and the only thing I saw that might be "changed" is something related to Previous Versions--about which I know not. Does any of this sound like what you're referencing? Thanks much, gmw

After you back up your contacts and whatever file-messages you want

to say two folders 1 for contacts and 1 for messages in maybe Documents,

Un-install the current Live Essentials, all of it, and reboot. Then download

this email platform from MS which is Live Essentials 2009. After it loads

open it and choose whatever Live program you want to load off of IT.

I only use Live Mail 2009. The rest I leave alone or dump. Once Mail is

loaded, go to start, programs, Live Mail. Move to desktop. I also pin it

to the task bar. After all that, configure your email, customize your

different bars, choose your colors [more vibrant] import your contacts,

your messages, etc. It is a much simpler mail program to use and you

don't have to worry about it not working, etc. I've been using it since

Vista and it has never given  me problems >

[edited to comply with guidelines - removed link which prompted download]

By the way, I'm using this on a highly modified 5315 Acer and

it has been working with this version of mail since at least 2010

    with zero problems.

I didn't realize that posting a direct link to an .exe file was frowned

upon, so in following Acer's guidelines. here is a link to a page from

Microsoft that will allow you to download the Live Essentials 2009

program. The page will give you the option of the 2012 program,

or the 2009 program and of course you'd want the 2009 program.

This an official Microsoft page, so you'll know it's legit.

Well, I did uninstall what I had and installed the 2012, but it's still not working. Was there a 2010? If not, I'll bet I've been using the 2009 all this time, and it's not WORKING. I really think it's just some box that needs to be checked somewhere. I appreciate your help. If you think I should RE-install the 2009, I might give that a try......rats Thank you, gmw
