  • laurent_14 I know you mean to be helpful, but the info you provide is useless! WHERE can the ODD drive be BOUGHT!!!???
  • joeuno Do you have a Windows Key sticker on the machine with the code? My new Acer has NO Windows sticker. Making it impossible to do a fresh install with a simple Windows 8.1 DVD. Really annoying and the first time I've seen this.
  • Did you buy DDR3L ?? The L is for low voltage or 1.35V. I tried to upgrade with a regular DDR3 stick that runs at 1.5V and it wouldn't work. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007609%20600006178%20600000399%20600000410%20600000279&IsNodeId=1&name=1.35V
  • Hmm, drive I bought doesn't work. Still can't find a DVD drive for the Acer Aspire e5 line.
  • When I hear "the hard drive light is always lit" I think more memory, or bad rogue program. An SSD will always be faster than the hybrid hdd. $89.99 with *Visa Check Out* http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2395687 Don't worry about SATA300. A SATA600 drive can't use all the bandwidth of a SATA600 interface…
  • Should be the same chassis as here: http://www.myfixguide.com/manual/acer-aspire-e5-571g-disassembly/ Lots more info here: https://community.acer.com/t5/Notebooks-Netbooks/Aspire-E15-how-to-upgrade-RAM/td-p/273994 Double check. I feel like you need DDR3L which is 1.35V. Don't buy regular DDR3 1.5V, it most likely won't…
  • Do you need that much space? If not I'd go pure SSD. The Crucial MX100 is a great drive for speed and price. Yes, you will be at SATA II speeds, but it will be much faster than your current drive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148820

  • What is that link you gave? I'm not trying to put a HDD in there.
  • A part number is a far cry from actually finding one for sale. Where can I buy it?? Thanks -Jim
  • BTW, I also created a bootable thumb drive with Win7 on it and can't get this acer to boot to the USB drive. I set it correctly in the bios, but no boot. It boots fine in other machines. I'm scared to go buy a USB ODD because I almost feel like this toy laptop won't boot to it either! I'm already on my second stick of…
  • Laurent_14, thanks again for your time. It is very hard to see, but if you pause just right you see that ODD drive (in your video link) has a tab on the back that holds the drive in the laptop. I have yet to find a drive that has that tab on the back to secure the drive in place (including the one you link). Go to this…
  • Laurent_14, thanks but NO clue! The burner you link is the same as any out there, but.... How do you attach an optical drive?? I can't find any with the needed tab on the back to secure it in place. Has anyone added an optical drive to an Aspire E5-571??
  • Yes, it "should" support almost any DDR3. I think the bios is set at 1.35V and it stays there no matter what you put in the slot. That is just a guess. My stick was pulled from a working laptop, but this Acer won't run it.
  • Hey Perry, I never tried 16gb because I have no need for that much memory, but the chipset does support it. The 4gb stick in mine (and likely yours) is DDR3L 1.35V Cas 11. I'm looking at this stick: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231697&ignorebbr=1 Even though this stick is lower Cas (faster) for…
  • oberon567 If you can return the laptop new, I would strongly consider it. I have worked on PC's since 1999, and this model is a needless pain! As far as the optical drive bay, I'm pretty sure all E5-571-XXXX have the same chassis. I have a E5-571-588M. You can add an optical drive easily when ever you want with out taking…
  • Laurent_14 I appreciate your help, but I have no clue where to find the drives you list. I also don't have any bracket or bezel. The ODD bay has a blank in it and the bezel isn't removable to install on an add-on ODD. I was looking at this drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151271&ignorebbr=1…
  • Thought I was doing great, but the new Kingston 4gb stick is not recognized! It's alot of disassembly to try different sticks! Acer sucks for not putting a simple access panel on the bottom of the laptop like the rest of the computing world!!
  • Acer Aspire E5-571-588M
  • derrill, I did it exactly as you describe. I will add: When you disconect the keyboard ribbon, the connector slids apart to relaese the ribbon cable. When you release the other ribbon cables, the brown part of the connector flips up to release the ribbon cable. I found the front right corner the best spot to start prying…
