  • Thanks James My system has a Core-i3 processor with Intel HD graphics 3000. As you say, hopefully they should be OK. How about the trackpad (Synaptics), sound card (realtek HD audio). wifi (Broadcom 802.11n), DVD drive (Matsu**bleep**a DVD-Ram UJ8D2Q) and touch screen? The laptop was a UK sourced machine. It came with Win…
  • Thanks IronFly What I am trying to ascertain is whether an upgrade will go smoothly, and whether the right drivers are available. If so, then I'll upgrade, but if there's any doubt that my laptop will be worse, then I'll stick with Win 8.1. I'd rather not try it and hope that Windows will find drivers that work. I am…
  • Sorry if this is disappointing news, but I used the download that is shown as 'Drivers' but is actually a much more complete package. I assumed by the first poster's description that he just updated the bluetooth driver in Device Manager. But if you look at the size of the download - 183MB - on the Acer site it's clearly…
  • You, sir, are a scholar and a gentleman! This worked perfectly. I had even tried uninstalling the exe with all related files using evo Uninstaller and when I reinstalled it somehow the old data was still in it. But editing the R e f D a t a . t m p file worked perfectly. Many, many thanks Colin
  • Hi IronFly I've run MSInfo32 on both laptops but can't see a serial number displayed on either of them. Where does it come up? Colin
  • Thanks Ryan Indeed, yes, that is exactly what is happening. The systeminformation.exe is somehow picking up the serial number of the other computer. Presumably if I use the recovery media I will have to start over and install my software and files again, or is there another way of recovering without erasing software?…
  • I had exactly the same problem but with a V5-471P. Same message. I'd tinkered with the settings and there seemed to be no way to go back to factory default. It was solved after I reinstalled the Broadcom setup software package rather than just reinstalling the driver. I think, but don't know for sure, that this may install…
  • I've now managed to clone my drive and install it into the Aspire V5-471P. This is not an easy task in itself as the hard disk is not behind a panel in the base like larger V5s but is under the top cover. Yo will have to remove all the screws from the base then prise off the keyboard then lift up the top silver cover and…
  • Thanks Alan Am still hoping that I can use my cloned drive rather than starting from scratch. Does anyone have any idea if this will pick up the licence key from the BIOS when it starts up? Colin
