  • Jack, Quick update to report nothing significant. I've had to put the machine on the back burner for the short term, but I'm going to try a top-down approach - keyboard off to see what I can see and go from there. I'll drop a line after that happens Thanks for your suggestions and encouragement. Bill
  • No joy Jack. There are no jumpers exposed with the bottom cover removed. I was kind of hoping I could pull the CMOS battery but that's not visible either. Wonder what's involved in exposing more of the motherboard. I don't want to crack the case, and I don't mean that in the detective sense. Bill
  • Another thought regarding the keyboard: When the machine hangs at "No bootable device . . . " I can do an Alt-Ctrl-Del to restart, which implies the keyboard is connected. Bill
  • I don't think so . . . When you remove the cover on the base of the machine there's precious little exposed to "tinker" with. You can remove the HDD and memory, also the WiFi connection is exposed. I thought you'd have to remove the upper half of the case to expose the keyboard connector. I'll check to see if I'm missing…
  • Thanks Jack. I've tried the various F2 deals and only get "No bootable device . ." each time. New drive in or out, holding F2 on startup, tapping F2, recovery disc in dvd drive, dos formatted usb stick, they all yield the same. Without being able to boot from a flash drive how can I flash the bios? Bill
