Got a reply from ACER, this type of laptop can work without a battery, despite that "battery boost" or "hybrid power" or whatever it was called. Which means that it's the motherboard that got fried, and repairing a 6 years old laptop isn't really worth it. I guess I need a new one now.

I've sent an email to Acer, let's see what and if they answer. Afterwards, I can try it with a replacement battery. Also, it doesn't seem to be the charger, I tried a different one (same model), to no avail.

How old is the battery? If it's over 6 years old, then it might have simply reached the end of its lifespan.

Batteries can be sometimes revived, if you have the necessary equipment. However, spending money on that (or on a technician) doesn't seem like a good investment, considering its age. Luckily, your laptop runs even without a battery, so just use it in stationary mode, or buy a replacement battery.

Yeah, I'm going to need that. From what I understood from the schematic, this layout is really a mess. I guess buying an Acer laptop was a huge mistake. Whoever came up with that "battery boost" system needs to be fired. Out of a cannon, straight into the sun.

Wait, that button is the battery reset, the killswitch is somewhere else, and I put some tape over it. AAnd checking the 3v and 5v isn't that easy, since I don't have a service manual or at least some schematics.

Interestingly, the laptop doesn't seem to charge the battery, since it's output at the battery connector is only 0.2 volts. Perhaps a standby or testing voltage?

Okay, I've tested it with and without the battery. It doesn't seem to work. The AC adapter does deliver the correct voltage, it arrives in the mainboard and can be detected all over it. There are no visibly defective parts, either. Still, the LEDs are dark and the system doesn't switch on. Is there a manual power switch…
