  • I gave up and did clean install from USB
  • Due to ongoing problems with the Win 10 upgrade I went with the Nuclear option and did a clean install on my Acer Aspire Used Media Creation Tool on USB, wiped the HDD and installed WIn 10. Sure hope this install doesn't have the problems of the upgrade.
  • Yes I looged in using my Admin account while in Safe Mode but just as when I run in direct Command mode "Jeffrey" does not show as an account. The only place I can find Jeffrey is in the Registry under Winlogin.
  • Thanks for the reply but the user account doesn't show in the list of users so I can't select it to delete it. Also am running Win 10
  • Replaced CMOS but the Extensa will still not power up. Will do a different thresd
  • Laptop was running fine. Powered it off. Next AM tried to start it but all that happened was Power light would come on, then HD activity light flashed a couple of times then it shuts itself off even though plugged into charger. Did some research and it seemed others that had similar replaced the CMOS and then everything…
  • No. Since the Acer recovery software is defective it just got as far as creating a corrupt Registry. Acer could care less about their defective software and their proprietary "recovery" system not working. I ended up erasing the hard drive and installing non-Acer software. So far performance is faster, Storage space is…
  • Contacted Acer. They had no interest is helping me solve the problem with their defective media other than suggesting I try and find a 2nd set to buy. I ended up deciding to remove all traces of defective Acer software from my computer
  • I am trying to instal Win 7 on Extensa 4420. The DVD boots and the install starts but I get error message that I cannot install W7 to the c: drive because Acer has "reserved" that partition. Where in the sales literature does it say that we are not allowed by Acer to install a new OS?
  • Nice video. too bad it doesn't show what actually happens when you use the CDs you have to buy from Acer. Tried three more times using different combinations of "Recovery" or "System" disks when asked for a "backup" CD. Each time the install either stopped or if it appeared to complete I got an error message that the…

Each time the install either stopped or if it appeared to complete I got an error message that the Registry was corrupt. Tried two different hard drives. Wiped the partitions and started fresh but I still ended…
  • Where do I find the instructions to create Factory Default restore CDs for Aspire 7551? I have looked on the Download page for Support but don't see the instructions.
  • Thanks for replies. RE Acer files & folders. I will delete them. I have copies of the drivers needed for my Extensa and since many of the Acer specific files like Acer Tour do not run or work I see no reason to clog up my HD with defective software and Acer is not interested in helping me fix their broken programs. RE…
  • Nope. Clicked cancel numerous times over the 2+ hours the Acer program was running but could never stop this program from hi-jacking my computer. I am working with 3rd party software to do backups as other programs are more reliable. Am also working to make the files on the "hidden" partition available to use, since…
  • Through lots of Trial & Error plus 3rd party web site info, I was able to get the Extenza running. I have however confirmed that the instructions provided by Acer for the recovery process are misleading at best or just outright wrong at worst. The instructions say insert "next disk" but don't tell you which of the 5 disks…
  • OK I understand but what are users supposed to do when the drivers from Acer are not correct for the LAN adapter Acer installed in our notebook?
  • Problem was the software on the HDD not the drive itself. It appears the Recovery CDs are history. I used them in 2010 and have had them stored since then but bad labeling from Acer makes it more difficult as no CD is identified as "Next CD". I wanted to do a clean install to solve a number of minor issues with Windows. My…
