  • I want the ability to upgrade to a new CPU for one reason alone. I want Android Runtime for Windows. I'm very frustrated that Microsoft will be locking Android Runtime for Windows to only Zen 2 and newer CPUs. For a laptop, being able to run Android programs is beneficial. I don't need faster RAM or PCIe 4 NVMe support…
  • I upgraded mine to a Killer 1675 - basically an AX210 with Killer firmware so I can continue using Killer Doubleshot and all the other existing Killer tools that the laptop shipped with. Works surprisingly well I must say.
  • Well, I just sourced for two extra pieces of the Hynix HMA81GS6AFR8N-UH RAM and it works for me. Found an online store selling these and after I determined from CPU-Z that my Helios 500 came with these, I just got two more and popped them in. Got 32GB, but now RAM speed has downclocked to 2133MHz and Instruction Timing has…
  • But are you sure it's Acer's fault? For all we know, it's a fault of the AMD drivers instead. Indeed. the 19.9.3 drivers failed to detect the display as Freesync capable unless it's upgraded from the 18.12.3 drivers. And yes I have the same wake up problem, but I've also observed a similar wake up problem on a…
  • The Helios series is one of those laptops that you should just treat the battery as a UPS. You need the laptop's AC power to be plugged in to get full performance out of the machine.
  • Noted. Well, I just gave it a go because 1. StoreMI is free to use, and 2. I am fairly interested in SSHDs and drive-caching and actually trying to study the technology (plus, a 120GB M.2 SATA SSD is ridiculously cheap nowadays compared to M.2 NVMe SSDs, perhaps due to their lower performance, but yet are still at least…
  • Well, here's the deal. This being a B450 chipset paired with the desktop Ryzen 7 2700 CPU, one can actually run StoreMI on this laptop to build a Hybrid Storage Drive (aka SSHD). I'm actually doing it myself. Pair a slow but large 2.5" HDD with a small and still reasonably fast M.2 SATA SSD and the difference is night and…
  • So I managed to get the other two Hynix sticks in and after installing them, my clock speed dropped to 2133 and instruction rate dropped to 2T, but the timing increased to 15-15-15-35. Is this normal? I made very sure I got two sticks of HMA81GS6AFR8N-UH.
  • I think I can come up with an explanation on why it only has one NVMe M.2 port. It's due to the Ryzen Architecture and by no means Acer's fault. See, the Ryzen 7 CPU only has 24 PCIe 3.0 lanes, four of which are taken by the southbridge, leaving 20 to the user. Sixteen is already taken by the Vega56 GPU (you can check…
  • Thanks for the heads up. Guess that confirms the that what I’m looking for is the SKHynix HMA81GS6AFR8N-UH (I already know what I’m looking for is 2400MHz, 17-17-17-39-1T RAM, as that part the BIOS did not obscure when HWiNFO64, CPU-Z, etc. queried). My concern with the Kingston RAM is that it’s 2T. I already dug through…
  • Hi, thanks, but I need to know the exact brand and model of RAM the laptop uses. This is for stability purposes. I’m not able to see what is being used in the other two slots of the system, or even access the other two slots, without tearing the entire laptop apart. If I know what kind of RAM the laptop comes pre-equipped…
