Hi,

I just bought a Predator Helios 500 AMD edition of the above model. I'm trying to get some information about the kind of RAM the laptop uses but am unable to get a solid answer, so I hope someone here can help me.

I know the laptop takes DDR4 2400 17-17-17-39-1T RAM. However the BIOS seems to be blocking the RAM from returning it's full specs, namely make and model, on the various programs I've tried running (CPU-Z, HWiNFO64, etc) which are just as important to ordering extra RAM as the other specifications are to me, as I'd like my laptop to have the same kind of RAM all around to minimize problems.

I don't want to mix and match RAM because I understand that non-matching RAM causes conflicts or to a lesser extent, degrades performance. I need 32 GB of RAM for my workflow. However, I am unable to get a full answer as to what kind of RAM this laptop is fitted with, and replacing the other two sticks (or indeed, just wanting to look at them) appears to be more trouble than it's worth since it apparently means I need to somehow remove the entire motherboard from the chassis.

I see Hynix HMA81GS6AFR8N-UH being mentioned in another thread, but am uncertain if this model is in my laptop since the datasheet doesn't mention the timing (1T or 2T).

Kindly advise, thanks.

Hi,Good Morning ! Kindly find the RAM specs of your unit below.

As per as the above specs, you can upgrade up-to 64GB using 4 soDIMM modules. I hope the answer is useful.

    Hi,

thanks, but I need to know the exact brand and model of RAM the laptop uses. This is for stability purposes. I’m not able to see what is being used in the other two slots of the system, or even access the other two slots, without tearing the entire laptop apart. If I know what kind of RAM the laptop comes pre-equipped with I can at least order the same brand and model from somewhere. I managed to at least find out the timing of the RAM, but if I could I’d like to get more of the exact type that is currently preinstalled in the laptop.

    @RAMChYLD here you go:

But i doubt you would be able to get any of those as they are made for manufacturers only to ship with the devices or to replace during warranty its really hard to see any stock parts on sale only if they are used if your issue its to have the exact ram why dont you buy some hyperx ready dual set kit 2x 16gb

    UserBenchmarks: Game 43%, Desk 61%, Work 40%
    CPU: Intel Core i5-7300HQ - 63.5%
    GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050-Ti (Mobile) - 41.9%
    SSD: WDC WDS200T2B0B-00YS70 2TB - 71.4%
    HDD: WD WD10SPZX-00HKTT0 1TB - 93.7%
    RAM: Kingston HyperX DDR4 2666 C15 2x16GB - 76.8%
    MBD: Acer Predator G3-572

If my answer fixed you issue please accept it for any other users who search for it would find it quickly thanks :)

Thanks for the heads up. Guess that confirms the that what I’m looking for is the SKHynix HMA81GS6AFR8N-UH (I already know what I’m looking for is 2400MHz, 17-17-17-39-1T RAM, as that part the BIOS did not obscure when HWiNFO64, CPU-Z, etc. queried).

My concern with the Kingston RAM is that it’s 2T. I already dug through their data sheets. Having built computers for several years I stick to the advice that I should use identical RAM to not suffer performance impact. I know it’s possible to mix and match 1T and 2T RAM, but the onboard RAM performance will be impacted as it will be slowed down to 2T and I don’t quite want that.

I see several sites selling used Hynix RAM tho- mostly from people who dare tear their Predator apart to change the RAM to something higher spec. I might take up on their offers.

I wish they had made all four RAM slots user accessible. That way I can tear out the two existing RAM sticks and plop in identical sticks on all 4 slots. Which I would have done- Would’ve replaced all four with HyperX Impact 2666, however after all I’ve been through I didn’t want to destroy the motherboard since I need to tear everything apart to reach the front RAM slots.

So I managed to get the other two Hynix sticks in and after installing them, my clock speed dropped to 2133 and instruction rate dropped to 2T, but the timing increased to 15-15-15-35. Is this normal? I made very sure I got two sticks of HMA81GS6AFR8N-UH.

RAMChYLD yes youre correct you should always use 2 (or more depending on the slots) sodimms same clock/CL and preferably brand (not required but advisable) to work properly in dual channel my best advice (because finding stock ram its very hard unless its used one) its to replace the stock sodimm also for ready dual sets usually they even come with the same serial numbers following each other this always means its a genuine manufacturer dual channel set and was not put together by third party :)
