  • UPDATE: I returned the laptop, and since a refund was not possible, I got a replacement laptop (same kind) that makes no noise whatsoever and works great. I would have saved a lot of time had Acer fixed the first laptop and not ignored the problem, but in the end it was better to get a fully functioning machine right out…
  • Freeza, No need to get all aggressive. But thanks to your attitude, I will not be buying Acer again. 
  • I did return it. But what a frustrating experience! If Acer had fixed the problem during the two weeks they had it in repair, I wouldn't have had to return the item. Also, these posts are not good publicity for Acer. I don't know what they're thinking.
  • A BIOS/DMI update was done by Acer when I sent the laptop in for repair. Obviously, it did not solve the problem. The issue is clearly physical: hardware-, and not software-related.

I just got it back today - December 20, 2012 (yes, it took a whole month to have the machine back) - and the noise not only remains but is possibly louder.
