  • Hiya StevenGen, thanks for responding and thanks for your suggestions. I was reluctant to open the laptop as it is still under guarantee so I started out checking modem and line. After getting in touch with my provider they found that it was a line fault caused by work at the relay box. Their comment was "yeah, we were…
  • Just an update. The laptop now only connects at around 3-5 mbps from the start. It is not thermal cooling as thermal cooling kicks in at 92'c and the core is only running at 43'c. I have tried setting wifi at 2.4ghz and at 5ghz and on automatic assignment. None of these changes make any difference.
  • Found it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why on earth would you hide a function like that??????? It seems a bl**dy stupid thing to do!!! Anyway, I have now changed to AHCI and gParted is now recognising my SSD partitions so I should be able to proceed with installation of Mint 19.3. Thank you for your patience, my friend, I thought it…
  • Is that in Windows safe mode? Because if it is CTRL+s doesn't do anything.
  • Bios still says SATA is RST with OPTANE. There is nowhere to change it.

I did this but found that the controller was still in device manager on reboot. I did this several times with the same result. Is this being reloaded from somewhere during reboot? BIOS is still…
  • Thanks for your response, egydiocoelho my friend, I very much appreciate your efforts. I have been in 'uninstall/change program' and I do not have any Intel programs installed. I have been in Device Manager and do not have an IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section. As I said in the last post I have a 'Storage controllers'…
  • OK, I have restarted in safe mode and opened the device manager. Where do I find the intel rapid storage driver and the ahci controller driver? I can't see them. Nearest I can get is the Intel Chipset SATA/PCle RST Premium Controller in 'Storage controllers' and I can't find the ahci controller driver anywhere.
  • Hiya egydiocoelho, my new laptop is an A515-54G-71QV model. I understand what you have written but, having been looking around the net, is the problem the SATA mode: RST with OPTANE? I understand that this is a piece of software by Intel within the Windows 10 software that allows the SSD to be accessed more efficiently so…
