  • This is mum's account, but I (alli) am the one helping her try to fix computer so I am also following this post, since it's me that will also be working on the computer if anything can be done, when I can get to hers. If she gets email saying reply to this post she forwards that to me, so I can follow up. We have saved…
  • Does the lack of any suggestions mean that either no one knows or perhaps nothing can be done to salvage this computer? Maybe everyone's just busy. I know this is a great forum for help. I'll check again later on. If that's the case can someone let me know so we can move onwards to finding another computer for Mom? Thanks.
  • Yes I was on the phone with her for an hour today coaching her on saving her files to a flash drive. She's got everything she really wants to keep on that now. Far as I know we cannot save programs she's installed on the computer. At least this way, her most critical stuff is on the flashdrive (hopefully). I couldn't be…
  • Ok, np. I'll try the other one tomorrow (Monday). Thank you.
  • I downloaded and installed the realtek driver for Vista. According to programs and features, it's there with date of 5/26/13. Still have no sound (If we get this fixed I will never update with windows again!!!). I saw speaker icon near where clock/date is on desktop, with red X so I opened Sound via control panel. Here's…
  • Acer AM5100-U5201A I went to the realtek site. Below is screenshot. I'm assuming I need to download that first option listed for windows Vista, 7, and 8 executable, but want to make sure.
  • I sure hope we can fix this. I won't be able to do much more again until Sunday. I'll get back on it then. I am going to do a fresh download of realtek driver, incase the one I have is no good for whatever reason. Will post once I get to tackle this on Sunday. Thanks.
  • Ok. I did the uninstall of realtek. Rebooted computer. Computer did a driver install on it's own upon reboot. Not sure if that's what you wanted to have happen. Sadly still no sound though. I did see it claims the speakers are not plugged it. I checked yet again, they are indeed plugged in. And since I did the same with a…
  • Under Programs and Features, the only High definition audio I see is Realtek's High definition Audio driver. No other is showing anywhere on that list. Is that the one I'm to uninstall? I do have the Realtek driver downloaded and saved in a folder from previously. If there is another HDAD you are thinking about, it's not…
  • Ok, post 6 page 1, shows my playback screen after doing what you said in post 5. So I don't see any Digital output device to right click on Sorry. I'm trying lol. And where did you post the picture you mentioned in last post? Thank you for your patience.
  • Sorry, but I'm really not sure what you want me to do? Where would I find HDMI? What is HDMI? I assume the HD part is High def. Under device manager I show: If this is not what you mean, can you please tell me what I am looking for and where? Thank you
  • Ok I hope I understand that and didn't just create more issues lol. I opened sound, right clicked over the hdad and selected disable. Here's the updated screenshot. Shows no device now.
  • Not to sound stupid, but how would I set them to default? I thought they were already lol.
  • Under sound, the item with green checkmark: Digital Output Device (HDMI) 2-High definition Audio device. Working
