There are dozens of different Swift 3 models, the model number should be something like SF3xx-xxx-xxxx. The Linux space on the drive should show as unallocated in Disk Management under Windows. If you need to switch to AHCI it's done through the BIOS. What drive is in the laptop now? If it's a HDD do you also have an Intel Optane card? If so check for Ubuntu support for Optane...

sf-314-510g-57w I have created unallocated partition for 280gb so it shows unallocated in windows but the problem is the grub installation failed during installation then when I come back and see for the unallocated space it remains the same unallocated with 280gb ,my drive: 512 gb SSD with 32 GB optane memory

OK, so the newest of the Swift 3 models with the 11th gen chipset and no provision for a HDD, so it's not a Optane conflict. I don't believe it uses the Intel RAID configuration needed for Optane at all, so we're not looking at a RAID vs AHCI issue. Have you tried any of the other flavors of Ubuntu? I'm leaning toward them either not yet supporting the chipset or just a bug in the installer. It's obviously having issues writing to the drive.

I was thinking more in line with Xubuntu, Lubuntu, etc. or even Mint or one of the Debians...

Have you asked the Ubuntu folks whether they are supporting the new chipset yet? They might not have the latest drivers compiled in... Since your system doesn't have IRST it's likely always in AHCI mode, so no need to change it.
