Acer Nitro 5 AHCI or RST Premium w/ Optane

Hello,

I just bought a Nitro 5 laptop, intel i5 with 250GB SSD and no HDD. I had trouble installing windows for my son as the hard drive was not visible by the windows installer so I managed to switch to AHCI and installed. Everything is working fine now, but I am wondering if this was a mistake and slows down the laptop. If I change now to RST Premium w/ Optane windows ends up broken and does not start.

Thank you,
Aneta

    Hi,
I would suggest you leave it as it is and continue to use it with AHCI, AHCI is standard data transfer protocol, RST Premium is the name given by Intel for their storage controllers, by the way, yes if you switch to RST Premium, it will not boot and you have to recover the image, if you want to know the procedure let us know but if everything works well under AHCI, you don't need to do anything.

May I know how to change back from AHCI to RST with Optane?

    Hi,
We need to know the exact model of your laptop, you can switch to RST with optane in Main tab of the BIOS screen, for future reference please start your own thread by clicking "Ask question" button.
