Back when i first purchased this laptop it was able to run games smoothly like sekiro or hitman 2 but after a few years, it started to become slower now. Doing my work and everything is normal but now when playing games i can barely get any fps and i always get fps drops every time for a few seconds. I even tried upgrading my ram and installing more memory which cost a lot but didn't do anything to help gaming performance. My question is if the cause would most likely be dust or the thermal paste. Because it does go really high even when playing very small games now like Minecraft it would reach around 90 max 97 and i get constant fps drops where i can't even run Minecraft at 30 fps in a new world, my laptop is pretty dusty on the outside and overheats way faster now. Any suggestions would help but i dont really want to change laptops right now i just want to know if there is a way to make it as good as before.

Specs:
gtx 1060
i7-8750h
16gb ram

acer nitro 5

Yes, clean the cooling module and re-paste.

Oh ok so just doing that will fix the problem? Will it also affect my fans because they are really loud.

If the fans are still good and you do a good re-paste and cleaning, then yes it will improve a lot.

I just did a repaste and cleaned the dust out of the laptop but it only dropped down a little bit and stays around 80 from 94 before. But the fans are still really loud now even at idle.

80° is very good, what are the rpms at idle?

I guess I can't do anything about the fans but the main issue has been fixed. The repaste and cleaning did drop the temperatures by a lot but the fans sound louder now but I don't think I will mind the sound that much when gaming. Thank you for guiding me through this and answering my questions. I haven't cleaned or repasted my laptop in 2 years, it's not working as well as it used to be when I first bought it but the temperatures have definitely improved.

2k to 3k is normal for idle, 5k+ for gaming as well. Mine are loud after 4k as well, so everyting is fine.
