Hi

I have a Swift SF315-41

Processor AMD Ryzen 5 2500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx     2.00 GHz
Installed RAM 8.00 GB (6.90 GB usable)
Serial Number: NXGV7EK00882004BEA7200
SNID: 82001943472
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

What SSD form should I buy as I am looking to upgrade to 1TB SSD drive, every time I try and find a solution I get conflicting information.

And as it took me several attempts for ACER to confirm I cannot upgrade the RAM I want to make sure I get the correct information before I buy.

Many thanks in advance.

    Looking at this teardown:
    https://www.laptopmain.com/acer-swift-3-review-disassembly-ssd-hdd-upgrade-options/2/

There is a M.2 Slot, and a 2.5 inch bay. Does your machine also have two drives? If so any normal 2.5inch SSD will work such as the Samsung 860

For the M2, it looks like it comes with a Sata M2 drive not a NVME

Your machine supports an M.2 2280 drive, either SATA3 or NVMe x2 lane. A NVMe x4 will likely work, but at the slower speed of the x2. As suggested above you also have the 2.5" slot for a HDD/SSD, that will be at the SATA speed. Note that if your machine didn't come originally with a HDD you might not have the cable and mounting bracket for one. The cable is Acer part number: 50.GSLN5.006 and the bracket is: 33.GSLN5.004.

    Hi

    Thanks for that.

My machine came with a SSD only, 256GB  - I do not know if it comes with two slots, I presume it has as I have read that I can use a 2.5" disk for additional storage.

so was looking for the best SSD to upgrade to 1TB but I didn't want to buy the wrong 'form/connection'

Can you give an example of Nvme with 2 lanes? I can find 100's but still not sure if it is nvme gen2 or nvme gen3 or nvme gen4 - although I presume not gen4.

    Many thanks

So all NVME cards will work you just wont see the benifits of the higher speeds :)

Ok so Just go with nvme gen2 card? As that is the max in speed terms?

Look for keywords like "x2" or "2 lanes". They will be a little cheaper than the "x4" or "4 lanes" versions, but not a lot cheaper.

oh ok, so even though there is no speed benefit with x4 because I need x2 but with no price difference I might as well buy x4

so does that mean any of these: Gen3 x2, PCIe Gen2 x4, PCIe Gen2 x2

    So this one:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07K1J3C23/ or this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/WD-Blue-SN550-High-Performance-Pcie/dp/B07YFFX5MD/ would be compatible?

Could I also just use the thunderbolt/USB port and have a SSD encasement and have it as an external drive?
